Well I found out why my hair isn't growing anymore.......I'm losing it!!!
Tonight was hair wash night, detangling like usual I found all these black dot looking things on the left side of my forehead. You can't see them when my bangs are dry and down. When wet and slicked back, it's almost obvious. Seems to be working from the forehead back.
THIS BLOWS!!!
Forgot to add. I'm only 27 years old. Is this normal?
I don't think there's a "normal" age that mail pattern baldness shows up at. I'm 37 and have not begun to lose my hair. My brother is 4 years younger than I am, started losing his hair while still in high school, and currently looks like Patrick Stewart. It's a genetic dice roll.
MALE not mail. ugh
Hey Micheal, sorry to hear about what you described but maybe it isn't what you think it is.I can't really tell so if you'd post a picture I'm sure I or anyone else here could better evaluate it.I hope, at your young age,you are wrong about the hair loss as it could be normal shedding.
Mark
Hi Mark,
Been watching this spot for the last couple days. Taking a closer look, it's just new hairs growing in, not out :)
I've never seen this before. Only thing I've been doing different lately is brushing with a plastic rounded end brush. So perhaps the brush is stimulating the scalp encouraging new growth!?
Male pattern balding (MPB) doesn't affect overall hair growth. It affects growth at the temples and the back of the head, and if it progresses that far can leave you bald on top, but it doesn't affect length. The usual rule of thumb is that if you are going to go bald on top it will be receding at the temples a lot by age 30, although it can hit some guys earlier, so that they are bald by 30. Also, all guys have it to some extent, but most never become bald.
There is another condition that can make you bald completely, but it is rare and usually affects even the eyebrows. Most people you see who have a totally bald head just have MPB but shave their head. They could equally well choose to have long hair but be bald on top, or anything inbetween.
Hair growth does slow as you get older as well, which can affect hair length, but not by age 27. Balding due to aging doesn't usually affect anyone under 60, although as you approach that age you can't expect to have as long a terminal length.
Michael, some prescription medications (esp. some for seisure disorders) can cause hair to fall out. When the medication is stopped, the hair usually grows back. Also, a build up of heavy metals in your body can cause hair loss, as well as other problems. That info is just FYI for everyone reading. I hope you are not having these problems! :)
There are supplements specificaly designed to help keep hair healthy, but they usually cost a lot. There is a vitamin called Biotin that helps keep skin, nails, and hair healthy, and costs very little at any major drugstore or supermarket. I take it and definitely see a positive difference.
I hope you do not lose your hair, you are so young. But, genetics/DNA has the final say!!!
