The longer the hair gets on the side of my head, the "crazier" my sideburns start to look.
I'm just trying to get a plan for the sideburns. Should I just daily shave up to the top of my ear line? Is it normal for long hair men to have NO sideburns? Or is it better to just grow out the sideburns with the rest of the hair? I'm sure it's a "personal preference" topic, but I couldn't really find any examples comparing the different long hair side burn (or the lack thereof) styles.
Thanks!
Shark, I believe it is a personal preference issue, as well as what is acceptable at your place of work. A clean-shaven face is fine with head hair of any length; well-groomed facial hair is also fine with head hair of any length. If you would like to grow your sideburns further down the sides of your face, just make sure to use a trimmer to keep the sideburn hair looking groomed and not unruly.
I didn't explain myself very well. I'm not just talking about long pork chop side burns, I'm talking about ALL side burns. In other words, I have very conservative sideburns right now (they only go to about the middle of my ear). I'm talking about cutting/shaving sideburns all the way to the TOP of the ear so that there is no shaggy sideburn growth. See what I'm saying?
Hi Shark,
My guess is that you're having trouble trying to figure out exactly where the facial hair ends and where only head hair really begins -- in other words, exactly where along the sideburns area should you encourage hairs to grow long enough to hook behind your ear VS where to keep the sideburns trimmed in a sideburns-style kind of manner... or something like that!
Did I understand your question correctly?
If so, then here is my answer: I don't always know, either (LOL)!!

That's exactly what I'm asking!!! :D
It's personal preference.
I used to keep my sideburns short, but more recently have been growing them out just to see how long they get.
I guess for most, the top inch, or a bit less, at the top of the ear is llike hear hair in texture, below that it is facial - beard type texture.
