Haven't posted here in what seems like aeons; so hello, everybody! Haven't touched a blade to my hair at all, here's a picture from out of the shower. My life took a sharp turn the other day; I got into a horrible car accident, but walked away without a single scratch or injury. Going 65 MPH, slid on ice doing a 180 across 3 lanes directly into a cement wall, completely destroying my 12 year old car. Anyway, there's the picture, cheers.
Your hair is, IMO, the standard to which the rest of us can compare. It is beyond phenomenal. I am especially amazed that it has remained in such perfect condition with a trim. I know my ends would never look that good without an occasional trim.
That must have been a harrowing experience. It's reassuring that you suffered no physical injuries.
Wow, thanks, Jason! I dunno, just never wanted to cut my hair at all, fearing I would hinder my length capability. Seems to have worked out for me, not trimming. Your hair is still phenomenal, as well.
It really was, though I managed to remain calm. Now I have to look for another car, and attempt to put myself through school, ugh.
Thanks again, my friend.
Thank you but alas, my hair has never regained the thickness it lost during the summer of 2008. I am, in fact, taken aback when I look at photos and videos from before that summer. The difference is quite extreme. I am thankful for what I still have, however, and very glad that I began my longhair journey early enough that I could experience a greater thickness for several years of it.
I also meant to compliment you on the composition of your photo. The white background is really cool and shows off your hair to full effect. The pose and movement of the hair is also striking. The metal band shirt adds to the overall feel as well. What band is that?
The fact of the matter is, you still have long hair, and really, that's better than a buzz cut sheep head, you know? Still be proud of it!
Thanks, Jason!! The band is one of my great friends' bands: Nocturnal Blood, one man band. Here's a link to check it out, an acquired taste in style though, very harsh production and morbid atmosphere.

Cheers, man!
Incredible! Wow!
You are very lucky to have such beautiful hair. How long is it now?
Congratulations for the pic, btw... Good shot!!
I am glad you are back and that you didn't get injured from that accident.
Cheers,
--tom
Thanks a lot, Tom. Well, I've never measured it before! But when I stand tall, it goes about 1 1/2 inches past my belt line.
Thanks again for your words!
Hey Hegg
Now that HAS to be about the most awesume ever photo of a mans long hair! Absolutely spectacular!!! You certainly deserve 1st place in the Hall of Fame in the world of Mens Long Hair.
About the accident: Indeed I am sorry and thank goodness you survived. Still, all too scary and I well know of icy conditions.........and of the Black Ice I remember so well in the many years I lived in CT. I once went around in circles so fast before stopping just about 1" short of a tree. No scratch to the 1967 VW Beetle, but man, was I ever beat-up inside.
Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and continued long hair triumph!
Justin~
ps: Leaving now for the day, but for a question: Would you give permission for me to use this photo on my You Tube channel page? If you say no I will understand, and never in a million years be upset. No need to worry about that one. But of the inspiration to all of the guys in process of growing out their hair........... this has to be the most fantastic of all.
Car accidents in the dead of winter are no fun, and I will drive like a grandmother from now on, sheesh... Glad to hear you didn't suffer in your accident, either. Thanks for your wishes!!! I wish the same to you, I'm glad to have caught you here again! Your compliments are immensely appreciated.
Hm, well, I do like to contain anonymity, so if you were to use this picture, I would prefer my name/email/any links not given. I don't think I could handle all the e-mails like you, ha! In what way would you use it? Let me know, and I'll decide!
Cheers, Justin.
Hey Hegg! :-)
What I was meaning was to use the photo as the back ground. (I change back grounds alot.) No names, links etc at all. No way would I ever do that. Not to worry however because what if someone were to recognise you? I think it is probably best to scrap the idea and stay with the "stock photos" that I have. No problem at all.
Wishing you a great weekend.
All the best-
Justin~
I would be okay with it if you put other guys as the background with me, so I"m not all alone, lol! Like a collage, or somethin'. I feel honored you'd want me as your background, haha!
Hi Hegg,
I'm just to know that you are okay and not hurt at all. Cars can be replaced that's for sure.
Just great to see you posting and all I can say is stunning and amazing and wonderful inspiration to us all.
Great pic BTW and hope to catch up with you very soon.
Cheers,
John.B
Thanks, John! Always respected your opinion and comments! Talk to you soon, my friend.
Awesome picture man! Just goes to show how cool long hair can be!
About the accident, Remarkable you walked away from that. You are very fortunate.
Many thanks! Some people think it's cool, mostly negative reactions around here, though, ha!
Yeah, I'm quite thankful for that... Anyway, thanks again!
Accident?
Not surprised with all that hair in front of your eyes.
Only joking - looks great! Glad you are OK, pity about the car.
Thank you. Yeah, sad that I have to let the car go, but it's time to move on! Thanks again.
Now that's a trve(:D) black metal mane! Glad you made it out alive, stuff like this happens and it reminds us again how life is so relative and ruled by chance. Anyway, really great hair, is it your natural color? It reminds me a lot of young Varg, especially the avatar. :)
PS- You make me jealous, straight and thick, while mine is wavy/curly and thin, I bet you could make some awesome braid creations with that hair!
Haha, thanks, brother. I'm quite amazed I walked away untouched! Incredible, perhaps the forces of Darkness were out that day watching me, bahaha. Ha, I think the hair and music taste is all Varg and I have in common, don't agree with his Nazi ideals :P If I could be like any Norwegian, it'd be Euronymous. ;)
Well, give your hair more time and it'll get thicker as it gains length, just be patient. I don't usually braid it, pretty much in a segmented tail while at work.
Thanks again, and cheers!
Hi Hegg,
First of all I'm very sorry to hear about your car accident but am thankful you survived the crash in one piece.Thankfully cars are made to absorb the energy of crashes such as yours so the car gets wrecked but not you:)
On a happier note your hair is just gorgeous Hegg:)What a beautiful mane you have there and I hope you never give it up my friend.Your a prime example why you younger guys should grow out the hair being as some of us age we are unable to grow hair like yours.I'm thankful to still have all my hair even at my somewhat advanced age!LOL.I plan to never cut mine short for the rest of my life and you can take that to the bank;)Cheers Hegg
Mark
Mark! Im happy things didn't turn out worse, either... My parents were quite happy as well. Thanks for your compliment :) I don't plan on giving it up, always gonna have it otherwise I would not feel like myself! People ask me if I'm donating my hair... I don't mean to be bitter, but it's like piss off, why can't a man have long hair for himself? Sheesh. Do you ever get asked that? lol, anyway. More people your age should have long hair, I think it provides the look of extra wisdom! Glad to hear your head will always be accompanied by long, long hair. :) Cheers, dude.
Hi Hegg,
Yes,have to admit I very much admire your awesome hair as I wish mine was like yours but don't we all wish for something we don't have?LOL.I'm not complaining though as like I said I still have all my own hair:)I'm glad to have kept my hair long as I got older. It's funny seeing guys my age who are starting to look like old men.Yikes!I feel I'm well preserved and the longhair makes me feel younger;)No one in recent memory has asked me about donating my hair but you are right, why do guys have to feel pressured into making this sacrifice?Hmmmmmmmmmmmm!Like I've said in the past I'm sure they make synthetic hair by the tons in China so why not use that hair for whatever.LOL.Have a great weekend Hegg:)Cheers
Mark
Your hair is absolutely gorgeous, Hegg. You have had great success at growing it super long.
That is really scary. You are very fortunate to have not been killed. Black ice can form on roads overnight when temperatures get below freezing. That black ice can remain well into the next day. Be careful out there.
Scott
Thanks a lot, Scott (no I'm not a poet!). I hope to grow mine as long as yours.
This Minnesota weather is ridiculous, we had the worst storm in over ten years this past weekend. Ugh. I'll drive much slower, I can tell you that much..
Thanks again, Scott, and cheers!
You got away very good on the car accident, could have been a lot worse. I once slipped my car and missed a lot of poles just inches, since then I've been a lot more carefull when it's slippery.
Your hair looks absolutely amazing, and the picture is really original. The no trims routine seems to work really well for you.
One question, do you have split ends and does your hair tangle easily? I've also haven't had a trim in more than 3 years since growing my hair but last year the split ends started increasing a lot and my hair tangles easy. Nothing conditoner can't solve so I still opted not going for a trim. I'm curious how your hair is after so long not cutting it?
Thanks a lot, Vincent! I don't have many split ends that I can find, though an occasional one I will find and cut off. My hair does tangle, for example when at gigs, but I can easily get it back to normal by pinching the tangle, as Justin said, I believe, and it's fine. Also a boar bristle brush absolutely eliminates tangles. I don't use conditioner, just your run of the mill, cheap shampoo and it works wonders. My hair's great after not cutting it and I don't plan on trimming it or anything for a long, long while. I have a date this morning, and I can't decide whether to wear it down behind my back or in a tail... hmm. Anyway, cheers, man, thanks a lot for your words!
Hegg I am so glad you didn't get hurt. You are one of the most
awesome longhairs there is! You don't know how much I would
love to have hair like yours.
Plus you have a very cool look with the leather pants (I think)
and studded belt. Both your hair and look rocks!
I'm so glad myself! Thanks for your excellent words! ^^ Ha, I can't afford leather pants, those are just black denim pants and I have a leather belt under the cone stud belt, which looks like it's part of my pants. Thanks again for your compliments, you rule! :) Cheers!
Hegg,
Headbangin'!!! Now there's the way to get your hair dry!
Your hair looks great.
----Glad you are OK from the accident. Had one myself last year about this time. Only going 35 miles an hour but black ice and the phone pole showed no mercy. Not a scratch, only shaken up a bit! Have a great Holiday Season!!!!
peace, jonalbear
Indeed! Usually works quite well, but tangles your hair to an extent.
Thanks a lot, my friend!
Hi Hegg,
It is always such a pleasure to hear from you, and thank you for sharing this truly inspirational update with us on the hyperboard. You have a mane to be truly proud of!
Of course, I am genuinely sorry to hear about this accident, and thank goodness you are OK. By all means, please be careful during this difficult time of year on the roads.
By all means, I hope you keep that mane growing, and also, please don't be a stranger, since you are held in the highest regards by everyone on the hyperboard.
Take care,
David
David, thank you! I appreciate your words. I will try to keep up on the board as much as possible, work willing. Glad to see many original people still around! Thanks again, and take care as well. Cheers.
Hegg, what a gorgeous update!
That hair is looking just great.
Sorry to hear about your accident on the ice. I'm glad you're OK!!
I've been in a few ice spin-outs myself. No damage or injury fortunately.
I was getting a ride home from work one wintry night in Spokane, WA, USA. We came to a turn on the road going about 40mph, the car slid and we continued straight on, sliding across a frozen grass field narrowly missing some trees and landing right side up in a ditch. Fortunately we were alright, and the car wasn't damaged. We were able to continue after the wrecker pulled the car out of the ditch. I did the driving from that point on, as the lady who was driving was a little shook up.
- Oren
Thanks, Oren! Now if only I could grow a beard like yours... Damn, you see, driving in the winter is so dangerous, and you don't ever think it'll happen to you until it does! Glad you escaped ok with no damage.
Thanks again!
Hey there Hegg,
I know that you've always been concerned about anonymity to an extent, but I was wondering if you had a picture from the back, just so I could see your hair ends. If you're not comfortable with posting more pictures, I completely understand, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask, :).
The reason I ask is because my hair is about mid back length, and my girlfriend is constantly pestering me to let her trim it (she's a hair stylist, go figure) because it is pretty dry and broken/split at my ends. So in a way I guess I want to compare it to your hair, because yours looks absolutely fantastic and it's had NO trims!
Obviously, I respect your decision whatever it may be, and continue to grow that epic hair of yours my friend!.. :D
To DJ, Vincent, and anyone else concerned about split ends: My sister is a hairdresser and turned me on to this product more than 6 years ago. The product is called BioSilk, it's clear and comes in a clear/whitish plastic bottle, and can be purchased at many hair salons. You get about 8 oz for about $25 - 30, but it will last a long time (more than 8 months for me, with hair to my belt). Get a pump-style spray bottle and mix one part BioSilk with about 8 parts water. This makes an excellent leave-in conditioner, and helps with the tangels too. (Depending on your hair, you may need to use both conditioner in the shower that you rinse out, and BioSilk, or you may only need one conditioner.) You can apply it to wet or dry hair, as little or as much as you like, but start with just a litte and adjust from there. Shake well before each use, and simply spray in your hair. (I use it after washing my hair, spray it in, then comb.) Personally, I avoid spraying on the top of my head because it can make my hair look oily in that location. I use it lightly all over my hair (other than the top), and then liberally on the ends. I rarely see a split end, and have not had a trim or cut in 3 1/2 years. If your hair has A LOT of split ends, you may need to trim them off first, or they could continue to split further up the hair shaft. My hair type is very straight, very tangely, and dry. This product helps me a lot.
Hey Hegg, glad everything is ok dude, slipping on black ice can be very scary! But glad you are ok brother :)
I had to delurk and say your mane is badass and you have come such a long ways my friend! it looks about classic length or maybe a little longer.
Thanks, dude. It's definitely Classic length right now, at least. Going strong still, don't plan to stop there. Hope you're doin well! Cheers, Mark.
Hair looks awesome. Wouldn't mind seeing a pic of it dry to see how long it is with your head up. Good to hear you are OK after your car accident. A friend of mine smashed his car in the snow too, so you aren't alone in that. Great to hear from you, it's been a while. You didn't happen to catch Blind Guardian, did you?
Thanks a lot, Garth! Damn, everyone's crashing this winter... or so it seems, seeing and hearing of a lot of crashes. Likewise! I may post another pic at some point, in this thread. I didn't, the last show I was at was a a couple weeks ago in Texas, Rites of Darkness Fest II - A M A Z I N G! Made so many alliances with bands I listened to for years, met great war brothers, was incredible. Hope to hear from you soon! Cheers and thanks again, dude.
