As the hair on the back of my head grows, it obviously all grows at the same time. In other words, the hair right on my neck grows with the hair in the middle of the back of my head, and as well as the top of my hair.
The bottom hair is going to drape over my neck before the other hair even gets down to that.
I have attached a picture :)
What is the normal way to get through the "awkward stage", before it's all long and growing nicely together? Do you just keep trimming the hair at the red line, while the yellow and green lines grow to catch up to the neck length?
What's the norm/best looking?
Here's an olde fashioned view...let it grow for a couple of years and then decide!
Those years would be the solution! I guess I'm just overthinking this, and I want to "mask" the awkward stage as well as possible!!!
Hi
No need to be ashamed of your hair and mask anything. Enjoy the journey and make it a pleasure trip. Best way to go and the most fun! :-)

Good advice!
I let my hair grow without trimming it. Well actualy not true, I trimmed my neck hairs after 3 months. After that my hair was long enough to cover them.
When you do want to trim your hair do the line is going down as your hair grows. Just be sure not to cut very high, that looks awful. Jason on this board cut his hair while growing it to maintain a even lenght overall, maybe he has some advise.
As always, the old dogs here are right. Best to just let it be and accept the fact that it's called the "Awkward" stage for a really good reason!
In my personal opinion trimming bits is just going to make the bad stage longer. As your hair on the green and yellow line gets heavier and starts to flow in a certain way, the trimmed hair will still be relatively short and doing some strange stuff. So when you'd already be at the fun part, the back of your head would be awkward. Your hair doesn't look as curly as mine, but the back tends to kinda flip up on most people at the red line and it would be odd if everything else was long.
Furthermore, if you plan on making a ponytail later, it would have to be pretty low for you to get all the back hairs up with your bangs.
patience is the name of the game here I guess. I am right there with you though.
