Hi happy growers,
Most of the hairs on my head fit perfectly into a ponytail, about to mid-back length. But I have a section on either side of the head, above the temple, where they just don't grow long enough. And whenever it's windy or even breezy they just fly everywhere and look messy.
It's fine if I wear a hat, but I don't really like that sort of look. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to deal with this? The hairs in question only reach about halfway to the hair tie, while everything else is reaching halfway down my back. Any suggestions appreciated!
Also, they are just short enough that they won't stay tucked behind my ears for more than a few seconds (when it's windy I mean).

Hi Charlie,
You know I have the same problem even though my hair is to around my waist. It's not that these hairs won't grow longer but more that they probably broke during one of my combing/brushing cycles.Possibly they got pulled on by some other means that broke them.Of course even tailed these buggers get loose and will fly around in the wind.Other than being patient for them to grow longer again you could put beneficial oil on those hairs to weight them down a bit.I'm trying a new hair care routine where I only wash and condition my hair every three days.As I approach the third day my hair is obviously more oily looking but wouldn't you know it those loose hairs that tend to fly around are now staying put:)I also find it much easier brushing my hair the longer it goes unwashed.I'm not sure how you care for your hair but at least I know if hair is a bit more oily the shorter loose hairs aren't nearly as much a problem than after its freshly washed.I hope this helps you my friend:)Cheers
Mark
Thanks, I will try the more oily method. The only problem is that my shorter hairs tend to be more curly, and therefore generally harder to control.. And they seem to have been the same length for a very long time. Maybe they just have a different terminal length than the rest of my head. But I'll give it a go anyway :)

Hey Charlie M.,
Since it sounds that you're concerned about some loose hairs... just buy some pomade, such as American Crew... about $15.00 at most stores. That should work!

Ive also got the same problem.
I ususally deal with it by tucking the problem hair sections in behind the ponytail hairs
Starting the ponytail closer to the skin will also help the ponytail hold the problem hairs in place
Ive been out in some very windy weather like that it works really well

you will always have hairs that don't reach the hair tie. Hairs are always shedding and new ones have to grow back in their place. A hair strand in your front hairline region needs to be about 13" long to reach the tie. (Hairs from the top and back of your head can be a lot shorter and still reach.)
My hair reaches the back of my knees, and yet, maybe 85 to 90% reaches the hair tie. (See photo.) For you, it is probably similar. I use a bandanna to tame my loose hairs that don't reach the hair tie.

I've been growing mine for about 2 years this time, and I still have a LOT of hair that won't stay in a tail. A lot of the guys here won't agree, but I brush it back with mt boar-bristle brush, and give it a few spritzes with >gasp!< hairspray. It hasn't caused any damage, and I don't do it everyday, but it holds pretty well most of the day if I don't mess with it. Sometimes, if it seems really dry and frizzy, I'll use Paul Miotchell Tea Tree Grooming Pomade. It was the only good thing to come from my sister's ambush make-over 2 years ago. I ended up with a hair style she said looked like Richie Sambora. It was ok, but I prefer it much longer.
This is today.
