Hi there,
Now that the seasons are changing again let's hope it will usher a new cavelcade of updates!
If you are planing to travel over the holidays just take care. I'd forget about coming to Europe as they can't even keep airport runways open or trains running under the tunnel! Perhaps the management from Chicago O'Hare should come over and advise!
Happy solistice solstice!
Cheers,
John.B
Hi John and a happy solistice to you too!So far I am fortunate to have avoided any real snow falls. With luck it will be a dry winter. As far as air travel over the holidays.... I'll take a pass!LOL.Cheers
Mark
Happy Solstice Solstice indeed.
Now as the days grow longer we can begin down the road to spring.
No more being depressed for those who get that way during winter.
Cheers
Kevin

You are having record snow and cold, we are having record rainfall on the left coast. Global warming?
Finally the daylight hours will increase. I am not fond of winter, and am looking toward spring. Have a happy solstice day.

That's a really cool photo of Stonehenge in winter. I visited in during August of 2006 and was very impressed.
I had an unusual experience this year - lunar eclipse and the summer solstice on the same day! Apparently that had something to do with the fierce wind we've had. Didn't do great things for the garden, but my hair managed to stay fairly untangled!
Now the days start to shorten again (sigh).

Hi John,
Happy solstice to you and everyone.
The cold weather and wet rains is not only affecting the northern hemisphere. Down here in Australia we have had a very wet year indeed with cooler then average temperatures. Only a few days ago we had a heavy snowfall with temperatures of minus 7 degrees celcius the same as London, England. Supposedly it's summertime here but lately it feels like winter weather. We may be on the brink of a new Ice Age so keep that hair growing for warmth and insulation everyone!
Best wishes to all at MLHB for the coming New Year,
Duncan

I thought you were joking. I went to my weather site and took a look at Australia. In a mountainous area called Alpine National Park, snow is predicted. Mt. Buller and Hotham Mtn. predict snow. You must live up in the mountains to see snow on the summer solstice in Australia. The highest mountain peaks top out at a bit more than 2000 meters. The high Sierras in California go higher than 4000 meters, and snow can fall in summer.

I hear it's a bit of a washout on the lower west side with a little bit of rain forecast! According to ABC World News Tonight but then again I suppose not many people watch that being a bit insular! Evwn the BBC isn't covering it!

You are right, John. Record rain is hitting southern California. Whole hillsides are washing away. (They were denuded of vegetation by wild fires.) I live north of there, near San Francisco, out of reach of the worst of it. It has been wet here, but the weather is improving.
The UK is getting the worst snow on record, if I understand correctly. Hopefully everything will return to normal soon.
Scott
I hope it snows two feet!!! Make sure the wine cabinet is well stocked John as you never know.
Hi Scott,
Yes we are having a it of a thaw here in the south and the Eurostar trains and Heathrow is getting back to normal. I just hope people get to where they are spending Christmas. Mind you it looks like more of the same next week.
Cheers,
John.B
The solstice has brought with it rain to the desert, and cool temps. We delight in this as it is a welcome respite. California is near washing away in the deluges. but we are next in line. The mountains may wring most of the moisture, but enough will come to give us a deep wetting.
Winter, such as it is, is upon us. Snow in the mountains is welcome as well. Perhaps this La Nina is not so firce as supposed.
I do know one thing though, the moisure is amking my hair NOt wish to stay put, already of a thickness to not want to stay behind my ears, it has seen fit to constantly freeing itself and covering the ears. Not yet of a length to restrainb in a tail, I do my best to let it be. Sigh, I am afraid it still is "awkward" This too, shall pass.
Happy Winter Solstice to you and all!
It was 85 deg F (29 deg C) today here in the D/FW area, Texas.
One of the warmest Winter Solstices I've experienced in a while!
By Christmas, temps here are expected to be in the 20s F. Wind is blowing down from the north now and it is already much cooler.
Enjoy!

Here in the Houston area we had the same experience haha
Thankfully, the weather is dropping back into the 50s(F). :)
