Well, after having to work 5 long days in a row this past weekend, I'm just glad the holidays are over!
I did, however, discover a favorite new (but old) Christmas Carol. It's from the '40s WWII ear, goes something like this:
"Have you ever spent Christmas on Christmas Island,
La de da de da something-something across the sea,
La de da de da something-or-other that rhymes with "island",
You can hang your Christmas stockings on a great big coconut tree!"
(Obviously I can't quite remember all the lyrics - LOL - but, my main point in mentioning this is that usually I HATE most Christmas carols; but this one is a real gem.... In fact, because I heard that song so many times while i was at work this past weekend, I now want to visit the real Christmas Island in the South Pacific in order to escape winter right now, and what the heck, maybe even move there!! Anyway, here's a few more lines from the song that I can somewhat remember again...)
"You can stay up late, like the Islanders do,
And watch Santa sail in with your presents in a canoe!"
Ahhhh, I'm sipping on a nice cool Pina Colada in my mind right this very minute!

Hi Ken,
These are the lyrics for Christmas Island:
Let's get away from sleigh bells, let's get away from snow,
Let's make a break for Christmas, Dear I know the place to go,
How'd ya like to spend Christmas on Christmas Island?
How'd ya like to spend the holiday across the sea?
How'd ya like to spend Christmas on Christmas Island?
How'd ya like to hand a stocking on a great big coconut tree?
How'd ya like to stay up late like the islanders do?
Wait for Santa to sail in with your presents in a canoe?
If you ever spend Christmas on Christmas Island.
You will never stray for everyday
Your Christmas dreams come true
(repeat last the last 5 lines above then sing
On Christmas Island your dreams come true.
I have the Jacki Gleason version and the above was written by Gore Martin and Alan Wilder.
Cheers,
Duncan
Yes, Duncan, those are indeed the correct lyrics -- thank you thank you THANK YOU!!
Enjoy your time off Ken!
I've got "Christmas Island" on an old 78 rpm single.
Andrews Sisters and Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians.
Decca Records 23722

Thanks, Oren! Yes, the Andrews Sisters is the original I believe (and my personal favorite); but also quite good are Leon Redbone as well as Jimmy Buffett's version...
Thanks again -- and I'm still sipping on that Pina Colada in my mind, while under the shade of a cocoanut palm!
