Happy New Year Gentlemen (and ladies that lurk and participate). My name is Bill from Falls Church, VA (suburb of Washington, DC). I'm 39 years old, and have been growing my hair for over four years now. I tried growing my hair back in '91-'92 in college, but only just got over the collar before my parents pressured me to cut it. I've been blessed with a job and friends that either don't care about long hair or encourage it.
I'm so glad to find this group as a source of support and commaraderie, as well as ideas for care and style. My hair is about mid-back length, about 22 inches. It has a big wave but is relatively straight otherwise. I usually wear it pulled back in a ponytail or in a bun, but would like to find styles that would allow me to wear it down more without it blowing in my face. I'd also like to find information about styles such as found in Rennaisance, Norse or "Middle-Earth" long-haired male styles.
I look forward to getting to know others on the group, and encourage you to contact me more personally for more information about me that is off topic (including my work in community theater as a director and performer; a professional arts administrator; life as a long-haired bear in a buzzcut community)
I've included a couple pics showing my hair in the past year or two.
All the best, and again, Happy New Year!
BILL
Welcome to the board Bill!
Hi Bill,
Welcome to the group and great to see more people de-lurking and you are in the best place for longhair advice.
Sounds like you have a varied and interesting job and always great to read that there are no dress code issues.
Happy new year to you mate.

Hi there BearBill,
Welcome to MLHH -- and what a TERRIFIC-looking mane you have, too!!!!
Thanks so much for sharing some of your hair history with us, as well as sharing your great hair pics!
I am so SO glad to hear someone else speak up about how BO-O-ORING it is to see all those damn buzz-cuts running around in the so-called "Bear" community -- I mean, since when do Mother Nature's real furry bears (as in, the kind that live wild out in the woods - LOL) ever buzz off a part of their nice soft fur?? It's ridiculous!
Anyway, I'm so glad that you found us here at MLHH... It's a great place to check in with now & then, to read interesting posts and see some inspiring hair pics, to learn some wonderful tricks & treats about the topic of good hair farming techniques, and in general just a fun place to hang out!
Again, a warm shaggy longhaired WELCOME to you!!

Great to meet you, Ken. Been admiring your hair, your pics but especially your dance moves. I used to manage a dance studio. Not a pro or teacher, but an avid fan of dance, and like to think I can trip the light fantastic when the mood hits me. But, sadly my partner isn't as much a dancing bear as I am.
And yeah, the bear community has given me some real mixed messages lately with my long hair. Longer story, maybe for the "other" board.
Partner and I will be in SF in a couple of weeks for vacation, maybe run into you and I'll cut in and dance with ya!
Thanks for the welcome!
