I know this is just another way to "keep myself busy" while (un)patiently waiting for my hair to grow out, but I want to start measuring my hair each month to see progress.
I did it last month, but I had a hard time figuring the out the BEST way to do this. I measured the front few hairs. It was definitely a rough estimate, but it got me thinking. What if I don't measure the same hairs? Or what if the hairs I measured fall out for regrowth? I've seen a few "progress charts" that have very detailed and accurate measurements and was just wondering what the best way to go about this is.
I like to see progress!
The most accepted way to measure hair length nowadays is from the crown (forehead), behind the head, neck, down your back, etc.
I have found an excellent novel approach for measuring hair. I use my closed fists to measure hair on the head. My fists closed are 4 inches long or 10 cm, and a foot hair length of 30cm or a foot will be 3 fists long.
Your fallen out hair is another way you can roughly estimate your hair length in that when hair is shed it is safe to assume that the longest found would be around an inch shorter then hair still on the head as hair usually stops growing about 2 months before shedding. Using a good sample of a dozen shed hairs you can measure them using a ruler and work a fairly accurate measure of your average hair length.
The problem with only using the forehead hair is that often the hair fringes around the face area grow more slowly then hair further back on the head - say on the scalp area which grows a bit faster.

Thank you for the tips! Unfortunately my hair isn't nearly long enough to use fists to measure! I'm at about 4 inches right now. But definitely some to consider in the next year when my hair IS fist-lengths long.
Thanks again!
