Hey, first time coming to the MLHH. I've been growing my hair out now for a few years, and finally started wearing it in a ponytail. Recently a friend of mine suggested I tried braiding it... got it done, and lo and behold, I love it.
Now, I was wondering what other ways men have tried putting their hair up in, and liked the results. I've been searching around... but all I've seen are ponytails/braids like I've already done.
Thank you all for your time and whatnot, and heres to another year gone by growing long hair.
Hate to reply to my own message with noone else's input, but I didn't want to start a new topic for this xD.
Can anyone also give me any tips on braiding my own hair? I know how to, but I have trouble getting my hair into 3 parts and while I'm braiding, it tends to split apart and get tangled within itself.
Welcome aboard Nick!
Congrats on discovering the fun of tails and braids.
I usually wear my hair in a multi-segment ponytail.
Over time, I learned to self-braid my hair in the basic 3-strand braid - kind of hard to describe in step-by-step form.
There have been online examples/videos of how to self braid hair posted here before.
Here's one site I've had in my bookmarks for a while that is really well done:

Thank you Oren, and for the links. I decided to give the herringbone braid a try... turned into the first braid I was able to do on my own (and have it look fairly nice).
As soon as I find a camera I'll have to take a pic to post here.
Hi Nick,
Rest assured that there actually are a lot of different long hair styles for men that is often commonly overlooked... I don't have enough pic examples myself right now, unfortunately; but just hang out here for awhile, and I promise you that you will indeed eventually see a variety here.
I'll name a few different hair-styles for longhairs that I can think of from the top of my head for right now, though. Here goes...
1) regular ponytail
2) segmented ponytail (using multiple hair-ties down a long length of ponytail, like our regular user "Absalom" has)
3) Half-tail (when you ponytail just the bangs in front, keeping the rest of the hair loose -- like that famous British soccer player who's name I'm forgetting right now does - LOL)
4) "Pull-tab" ponytail (I'll try to take a pic of myself soon to illustrate this idea)
5) "Bee butt" bun (AKA Cinnamon bun, AKA tornado twist bun, AKA Popeye's Olive Oil bun, AKA....)
6) Regular braid
7) Reverse Braid
8) Two braids
9) French braid
10) more; but it's late right now and I'm getting rather brain-dead (LOL)....
Hope that helps you out for now at least, Nick!

Thank you as well, I've tried a regular, segmented, regular, and fishtail braid so far. The only one on your list I haven't ever seen or heard of, was the "pull-tab" ponytail.
