New York Times article about parents growing their boys' hair (and I mean "under 10"). Of course, most of it is about mothers wanting it for their kids and boys rebelling by getting it cut--so what else is new?
Still, I don't want kids soured on the idea by having it foisted upon them--I understand it can happen, even if it may not be as prevalent as the New York Times might want us to think. The last thing I'd want is a world where getting a haircut can be framed as the "rebellious" thing (though of course we've been living in that world for decades now).
The NYT article
Now this is certainly a twist of the longhair on guys or should I say boys issue. After reading the article its a shame that what seems like a good idea is backfiring with some of these parents. In the end its really better to let the person make their own decision what hair length they prefer. That is much different than when a guy gets older and an employer demands a potential employee get a haircut or no job. Thanks for bringing this up as it shows how being a longhair is such a personal choice.

What an interesting article! i honestly had no idea something like this would be an issue, given our status as a minority!
I agree though that hair style/length should definitely always be left up to the person in question! Had I had the same choice growing up, I never would have been short-haired!

Little boys are no really able to make decisions about their hair, by that I mean real little boys. Parents decide about long hair or short hair for their own reasons. Eventually a boy comes to the stage where he will be able to make a decision. I think a lot of guys would really like long hair, but give in to "peer pressure."
