Hi Hairy People,
I was just thinking about what would be my definition of a "mega-longhair" (AKA super-longhair)... Not sure there is such a thing in reality; but in our little world of hanging out with fellow long hair addicts, I've decided to come up with my own definition.
According to Webster's American Family Dictionary, the word, "mega" means: "extremely large, huge"... Hmmmm, but to most of us here at MLHH, it's a guy's hair LENGTH, rather than volume, that is quite symbolic of his commitment to being an unusually long-haired longhair (for lack of a better way to word it - LOL)....
OK, so here is how I define a mega-longhair: Any long-haired man that has a mane which is significantly past his belt-line. I say that because belt-length seems to be the dividing line between "very long" and "rarely seen" -- in other words, mid-back length hair on a man is most certainly considered by Western Society to be extremely "very long"; whereas when a man has hair that is significantly past belt-length, it is such a rare and unusual sight that it will often turn heads (whether in disgust, or admiration - LOL)!!
In order to achieve mega-longhair status, several amazing factors have to come together in order for any man to have hair that long. Here would be what I would call the "secrets" to being able to be a mega-longhair:
1) Genetically very blessed (AKA "lucky!") by having a very long terminal length
2) In good - excellent general health
3) the desire and interest to grow one's hair long in the first place
4) the patience and persistence to continue growing one's hair out
5) the COMMITMENT to KEEP one's hair at a maximum length
6) ability and interest in taking good care of hair that long
7) successfully staying away from scissors for a very very long time!
Another way for me to put it would be: anybody with hair significantly longer than my own!" (LOL)
What would be your definition of a mega-longhair (if you have one)??
Thanks in advance for any replies!

Ken, I think I would have to agree with your on your assessment of what "mega long hair" is! I can also say with complete honesty that I would be among the "admirers" who's head would (and does!) turn!
However, I also notice that many of the longhairs I see around generally do not have hair that is much longer than shoulder to shoulder-blade length.
Aye, anything that hangs down past your belt I'd consider mega-longhair... I'm hoping to one day reach that myself. I've gone 2 and a half years now without a haircut and I'm sitting right at the bottom of my shoulder blades and I plan to keep going!

Although this image is a few years old, my hair is at the same length as it was then. (I need to do some new photos.) I am unsure if anyone posting currently here has hair that is longer than mine. If anyone does, please post a photo, I would love to see it. My longest strands reach 20 inches past my belt. It would get even longer if it did not get brittle at the ends. I probably lose at least 4 inches of potential length due to this. All of my strands 3 feet plus have broken ends. Fine reddish blond hair is fragile.

Hi Ken,
Yep, I would agree with your definition. Even in the case of women with hair length as you speak of would equally qualify by many people's standards.
As for me, I'll be lucky if I could qualify in say roughly 2 or 3 years based on your definition of a "mega-longhair". Do wish me luck as I've been aiming for this for years! My hair grows slowly so it's not going to be easy to do as much as I'd love to be able to sit on my hair now. I'll keep eating my sunflower seeds and strawberries to speed up the process.

I think that is reasonable, even in SF, for tailbone length hair to be considered very unusual on men. In other areas, somewhat shorter lengths might qualify. If one is out and about a lot in SF, you are likely (I am, anyway) to see about one guy a day with hair in the belt to tailbone range...and 1 or 2 a week in the past tailbone range.
For women, I have to say that locally, past classic would be required to call it mega-length...given that I essentially expect to see tailbone to classic if I go a few blocks down the street to a store, and am surprised if I don't see someone at or past classic in the course of a day!
