The New Zealand government has changed the 'grooming standards' law in work places and schools due to a large amount of complaints by long hairs alike that it goes against the freedom of choice. The old law which stated that all work places and schools had the right to refuse employment of people and students who did not conform to their 'grooming guidelines'.
I am pleased to say that in NZ it is now ILLEGAL to turn anyone who has the right qualifications for a certain job away because of their choice of appearance (hair, facial hair, clothing - except for schools and work places which have uniforms and jewelery - religious, piercings etc.). If you work in a hazardous area or with dangerous equipment, for safety reasons you will be asked to tie up hair and take off or hide dangling jewelery but other than that you can do what you want with yourself and not be turned away from a job because of the way you look.
We might be a small country but if Australia decides to follow then this could possibly be a world wide thing (hopefully).
Hey Mitch Norton,
Go New Zeeland!

That's fantastic! Making your voices heard really worked. This definitely needs to mirrored here in the States.
