I now wear my hair in a tail every day. Just to kkep it under control. Many hairs are still not long enough to be brought through the hair tie but I do brush them back then gather it all as I tie it back. use a light spritz to hold the recalcitrant ones in place. It works for now. Still consider my hair to be in the later portion of the "awkward' stage. Can just grasp the longest hair behind my back without having to tilt my head back. Have altered my cleaning procedure. as it seems to prevent the frizzies. When shorter, I shampooed as I showered every day. Moved to shampooing every other, am now at every third day. I do wet my hair in the shower each morning to help removal of atmospheric particles and dust, but use nothing to strip the oils. May move to every 4th day soon. Is this a healthy regimen for my type of hair? Straight but thick. My hair does seem to be healthy in this regard. stays shiny and full. Do have the occasional "wild hair' though. I definitely (gladly) remember again what it is like to have "long' hair.
I doubt "removal of atmospheric particles and dust" is a necessity at all.
I hear you!
I think you would be slightly ahead of me in progress,
It's the least fun stage of growing out when you just want that full ponytail to happen and there is still hair not reaching it..
At least we're nearly there!
Hang in there,
Matt.
When my hair was shorter I had to shampoo it daily or else it would end up looking greasy. As it's gotten longer I've gradually moved to shampooing only once a week but condition and lightly oiling daily. Conditioning alone seems to prevent oily build up at this stage, and different conditioners seem to produce varying results. Judging from my experiences so far I'd say you're on the right track.

It sounds like you're having an easier time figuring out your shampoo needs than I did. You're right on track. Keep it up and keep growing. :)
