Post a pic of the earrings you like to wear, if you wear them.
For myself, I think larger earrings go better with longer hair. My favorite earring is a nice big hoop, usually anywhere from 1 1/2" to 3" when my hair is down. I usually wear thick 1 1/2 to 2" hoops when my hair is tied back.
I also have a few native american style dangles that I wear on occasion too.
Here's a 2 3/4" hoops that I enjoy wearing often.
Thank you! ;p What a trip!!!!!
Know anything about the history of mens ear rings? Were big hoops a very masculine thing in the Bronze age or anything?
Don't know a WHOLE LOT about men earrings in the past, but I do know men have been wearing them for ages. Only recently has men wearing large earrings seem to be a little controversial in modern times.
Thanks for your reply. ;p Yes, alot is contraversial these days that wasn't so in the past! Ugh!
Those are sweet!
I used to wear some 2" hoops but its been awhile. I think since getting the second holes on each ear I've been favoring the smaller hoops like 1/2"
Thanks!
I also have 2 holes each ear, although I rarely wear anything other than an occasional small stud in the second hole. I've found it hard to go back to small hoops ever since becoming comfortable wearing the larger ones.
They look great with long hair and seem to belong there.
Have you worn them to work?
I usually wear hoops that are about 1 1/2" or smaller at work.
Nice.
I have a piercing in my left ear, but haven't worn anything in it for a long time. I pierced it myself when I was in the military with a thumbtack that I had sterilized with a cigarette lighter. After the novelty wore off and I lost all my favorite earrings, I kind of lost interest. I still have a dangler that's shaped like a dagger with a Medusa head where the hand-grip should be, but I only wear that on Halloween and other such occasions. I am part American Indian (most of us dislike the term Native American), but it never occurred to me to find any earrings associated with that part of my herritage. Maybe I'll do that. :)
I'm the same way with my second set of holes. I rarely wear anything in them, only on rare occasion a small stud.
American Indian, i'll have to remember that!
And of course, I would recommend trying out some authentic Indian made earrings. I've seen some very cool designs that I wouldn't mind wearing at all!
Pat,
Great portrait.
Nice looking couple!
peace, John
ps No earrings for me. Just not my style although they look great on you and your friend!
Thanks for the nice compliments!
I think earrings go great with long hair. I wear all kinds and sizes but I prefer more subtle ones like the 1-inch hoops shown in my pic or even just small gold ball types. When my hair was longer and tied back in a pony tail I was less comfortable with them--I like to have them almost not noticeable unless you look carefully.
Here's a pic with my hair not swept back as much--you don't even see the earrings. Kinda cool. (I could not figure out if there was a way to post 2 pics with one posting.)
Yup, can't see them at all! Same applies for myself even with huge hoops, I am capable of keeping them completely out of sight!
I am fortunate to be (tenured) in higher ed, a bastion of liberal thinking that gives me some freedom. I can understand the pressures in the business world but looking at my students the gates of fashion are wide open! Still, I am personally on the frontier of fashion with long, styled hair.
I obviously also think earrings go great with long hair:) Even though I have both ears pierced from top to bottom, they're not that noticeable when my mane is down.
I like the multi piercing earrings. Are those captive bead earrings?
Yup - captive bead rings ascending both ears, with a few ear cuffs to boot. I wear my earrings 24/7 for years at a time:) Here is what my stuffed ears look like with my mane in a tail:)

Wow that is a lot of earrings. I am guessing you have maybe 15 piercings in each ear. I did meet you once at a longhair meet in SF a few years back, but I forget just how many you actually have. (I have a mere 7 total. 4 in my right ear and 3 in my left.)
Does this cause a problem for air travel? Collectively, there is enough metal there to set off the metal detector for sure.
Scott
Scott, I have 13 in my left ear and 14 in my right - at least until I get more:) Believe it or not, they don't cause a problem with airport security. This is because they're stainless steel, which is non-magnetic.
Those earrings seem to suit you well. Subtle but cool!
Hi Pat,
Cool earrings on you and your friend, I like the big-loop look on you!! (GORGEOUS woman by your side, by the way -- is she your girlfriend? She could easily be a cover-girl model!!)
I wear an earring also; but mine is so subtle, that i don't currently have a pic of myself that reveals it's even there...
Quick funny story about my earring history:
I first had my ear pierced by a female friend of mine when I turned 21. Not wanting my dad to see it, I wore a bandaid over it because my hair didn't quite cover the bottom of my ears enough. I thought I looked stupid with it, anyway -- so a month or 2 later I eventually decided to remove it and let the hole heal over.
Years went by...
Shortly before I turned 40, another female friend of mine made the following statement: "You know, with that long hair of yours, you'd look great with an earring!"
I told her that I had already tried that, and that it just didn't look right for me.
"Then maybe you pierced the wrong ear.", was her reply.
The "wrong" ear??
Then she elaborated: "Most people's faces are not even -- one eye or one ear are a little higher than the opposite one; so one side of your face is going to look better with the earring in it than the other."
A month later I decided to celebrate my 40th birthday by doing two things: 1) started officially wearing my hair back in a ponytail (my first time in my life at that time); 2) got my ear pierced again (but, the OTHER ear)....
And I've been happy ever since!

PS - People often make a big deal out of whether your left ear or right ear is the one that's pierced, because one is supposedly supposed to mean that your either gay or strait. I DON'T GIVE A HOOT WHAT PEOPLE THINK!!!! (And I don't even know which ear is supposedly the "gay" one - LOL....) All I know is that the ear that was pierced when I was 21 didn't look good on me; but the one that I have pierced now does... End of story!
PPS - I also don't care when people find out that i happen to be openly gay.... Oops! Did I just say that on the hyperboard? (LOL)
Yes, Ken, your inner monologue is apparently broken... again. You really need to get that looked at [BIG grin]

LOL, yes -- and as the saying goes, "It takes one to know one!"
(Hi, I'm Ken, and I enjoy sarcastic jokes and annoying people, including testing their patience with me - LOL)
There's a sign I've seen that I have to find a copy of for my desk. It read:
"I'm sorry, I'm all out of helpful advice.
Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?"
