Hello everyone.
Hope you're all doing alright.
I know I'm a bit of a 'newbie' around here, but I'd like to announce that its now been 4 months since I last cut my hair...
While this is a bit of a ridiculous milestone for some of you, for me its been a long road =P My hair is now at about 4.5 inches in length, longest I've ever had it... and it starts to fascinate me how its starting to 'come alive'.
It moves around as I do, I can feel it lift and settle if I turn my head around. Its something quite new to me =)
----
Anyway, a little issue has been popping up in my mind. I tried looking for it on previous posts, but its a LOT to sift through =P So, bear with me...
I feel like I'm starting to finally enter the 'Awkward Stage'. Hair's becoming more of a chore to care for, and keep neat... but, so far, I haven't had much trouble.
Since my job is mostly boring night time IT desk work, I don't have much to worry about as far as 'appearance' goes. But as I ponder and consider near-future professional projects, makes me wonder how I can possibly control my hair if I have to work directly with clients, especially once the Awkward Stage 'fully' sinks in...
TL;DR bottom line:
What options would I have to 'control' my growing hair during the awkward stage, so as to keep it looking neat and clean in a professional setting?
Sorry for the "Wall O'Text"
Everyone take care
Hey Gon,
Don't feel silly for your 4-month milestone. I know that when I started growing out my hair every month was kind of special.
There is a lot you can try and do in the awkward phases to make it look a little more presentable.
You could try slicking it back with some kind of product, or even a hat if you are allowed one. You could just leave it as it is. If its long enough you could try a high-up ponytail. Where I work I have to wear a hairnet and visor so this has never been a real issue for me.
These are all I can suggest, I am sure other people will have more options for you.

Thanks for your reply
And I apologize for the 'internet talk' bit...
I don't usually use it myself, (only figured out what it means a short while ago) but I had the impression it 'was' somewhat of a standard, and that it 'would' be something widely used.
My apologies to the rest of the forum users... I'll just keep on typing 'regularly' as always.
Hey Gon,
No need to apologise! I was just more giving some friendly advise more than anything.
I hope you continue to enjoy your longhair journey. Its a very satisfying one!

Gel, hairclips, mousse....that's about all I can think of until you reach the length of a ponytail for at least some of your hair.
Try different methods to see what feels/works best-I know that sounds so cliche but it is true. You can't beat experience.
Keep it growing and the best to you with finding a style for the awkward stage. :P
Your milestone isn't trivial. I remember when I was first able to "feel" my hair move as I did. It was fascinating to me, and I learned to enjoy it.
I work on third shift in tech support like you, but when I was in the awkward stage I was working day shift. I struggled with the professionalism, even though nobody ever said anything. I ended up using generous amounts of hair gel to just slick it back until it was long enough to tie back. Even then, I had to use hair gel until the hairs in front caught up to the rest and reached the hair tie as well. Now I just tie it in a ponytail before going to work. That may not be the answer for you, but it's what I have to offer. You'll have to experiment and ask questions. Before I found MLHH, I got a lot of help from women with long hair. Most of them are eager to help, but aren't likely to share unless asked.
Keep growing! :-)
