Here's my progress after 36 months.
Hi Duncan,
What an outstanding update. I cannot get over how incredibly thick your hair is! With hair as thick as yours, I don't think you will have any trouble whatsoever in achieving your goals!
Keep it growing,
David
Thanks David ! All the best to you too.
Duncan
Wow Duncan, that is an awesome mane!Maybe it being so puffy is because of the humidity but it looks soooooo cool:)It would look jaw dropping at waist length so I hope that is your goal.I tell ya I wouldn't mind being where you are as I'm so tired of winter here in the US.I want some warmth!LOL.Great update my friend as I'm very impressed:)Cheers
Mark
Hi Mark,
Thankyou for the compliments. I do hope to grow it down to at least belt length where if it gets to that length I would probably maintain it there for practical purposes!
Funny you should say it looks cool. that day the pics were taken was really hot and i had kept the hair tied up all day and wearing it down feels so damn hot and bothered on those days. I'm happy to trade places with you Mark as i prefer the cold to the heat anytime:)
Normally i use jojoba oil and the pictures were definately a rush job and it wasn't the most flattering hair day.
Keep warm and dream of the coming summer my friend and i will dream of the coming winter.
Cheers,
Duncan
was wondering how your progress was going. Looks great, how do you stay cool ish in +35 heat.
hi lenny,
my hirsute progress is growing along nicely and i have to say that the longer the hair gets the better i like it and the easier it is to keep it neat and tidy. staying cool is you find your shade where you can get it and stay there as long as possible until the glistening fireball in the sky chooses to depart for another day.
we use a lot of fans to keep cool and bathtubs. heats ok, however the humidity lingers like a bad penny!
cheers,
duncan
Wow. Thick hair! The awkward phase must have been tough going.
Now you are over that hump and things will easier for you, no doubt.
Great progress! CONGRATULATIONS for passing the great Endurance Test!
hi luckskind,
i have to agree with you the early stages were the worst but after 18 months it got easier. the photos were taken on a day when i didn't use jojoba oil which i find really makes a difference.
there's def. more good points then bad having thick hair and everyone's hair thins with age so having thick hair to begin with means having more in reserve:)
cheers,
duncan
Outstanding update, Duncan... what an impressive mane!

hi validus,
thanks for the compliment and all the best to you on your hair journey too. your a good role model to your sons and i think they are fortunate to have a broadminded parent to look up to!

Goodonyer, mate! And thanks for displaying the Eureka flag & Ned Kelly on your shirt. Keep it growing.
Hiya mate!
I'm going to aim for belt length if it grows that long. Hope your own progress is going well too. Always good to hear from another Aussie on this chat board.
There's a band called THE BEARDS and they are from Adelaide, a group of 4 long haired guys who play funny songs about the glory of having a beard. goto youtube and check out the song IF YOUR DAD DOESN'T HAVE A BEARD YOUR GOT TWO MUMS. They performed last week in my hometown.
I've always admired what the eureka flag symbolises, for those outside Australia there was a Gold miners revolt in 1854 known as the Eureka Stockade Rebellion and they basically started a democratic revolt against the unfair Government extortion of a high cost miners licence. Ned Kelly was a bushranger who got a raw deal from corrupt police who picked on his poor Irish Catholic family. He represents the underdog who dared to bite back!
cheers,
Duncan
Quite a head of hair, Duncan!
That humidity really gives it volume for sure.

Hi Oren,
it's always good to hear from you directly, and your one of the reasons why i stopped straightening my hair 15 months ago.
i'm going natural as i want healthy long term long hair and not something that isn't the real me. my hair is naturally of a wavy/curly texture with the bulk of the curls hidden underneath the more wavy top layer. the nape area is very curly indeed and easily puffs up on very humid days. part of the joys of having hair with it's own mind and not of the strait-laced(pun-intended) well behaved type. yes your right that humidity can really make a difference. normally i use jojoba hair oil which works wonders in keeping the hair more manageable.
i'm going for belt length and my hair is now 48 cm long and probably within 18 months will be at waist.
cheers,
duncan

Your hair looks great, Duncan. I see it is naturally curly. I am guessing you were straightening it in the past. Looking at your hair, I am thinking you are part Aborigine.
I hope the weather is not impacting you too negatively. I have seen all the awful flooding on the news.
Scott
Hi Absalom,
Thank you for the compliment. Coming from you is extra special as i consider you one of the venerable hair guru's on this board.
Yes my hair is naturally curly and is more wavy on the top with the bulk of the curls hidden underneath and more curly around the back of the neck area and like you am prone to tangles from having fine hair.
I stopped straightening my hair 15 months ago and am letting it come in natural as my long term goal is to have completely healthy and natural belt-length hair.
It is possible that i may have some Australian Aboriginal ancestry in my family tree. My dad has darker skin then me of a leathery tanned complexion.
More and more Australians are embracing their indigenous heritage and it's estimated that up to 10% or more of our population does have some Aborignal ancestry. I get regularly asked if I am aboriginal by different people. I get called "uncle" or "brother" by some aboriginal people though I don't identify with being aboriginal, i take it as a compliment nonetheless.
In the past a lot of light-skinned mixed blood people were taken from their aboriginal families as children and brought up white and cut off from their indigenous heritage. We call them "the stolen generations" and the repercussions are still being felt today. They only stopped taking kids from families in the 1970's and there's many people out there who don't know that they are of aboriginal descent.
cheers,
Duncan
The volume you have is damn awesome!
Thanks for the compliment Allen! I didn't always appreciate having very thick hair but have learnt to count it as a blessing. Hairs in reserve!
best,
Duncan
Looks good i wish my hair was that thick, James
