Hi everyone, I used to post here regularly but haven't for a long time.
About six months ago I began experiencing hair loss at my hairline; the usual temple recession and thinning in the middle. I already have a natural widow's peak so the effect is concealed somewhat, but I have been losing quite a lot of hair.
I saw a nurse practitioner a few days ago about this and she took a blood test, and if I'm not nutritionally deficient or suffering any conditions then she said I should start on Rogaine or Propecia to stop the rest of my hair from falling out (and maybe even regrow some of what's gone). My hair loss is only noticeable if it hasn't been washed for a day or so (the sebum makes it look thinner) or if you go up close, but I know it's going to get worse if untreated, and I would not be happy bald.
Is anyone here on Rogaine or Propecia? Has anyone tried both and found one better than the other? Any incidences of the side effects (increased body hair with Rogaine, impotence/depression with Propecia)?
Help is appreciated!
Hi Ralph,
My hair is gradually thinning and receding, but not too much considering I'm 37 this year.
Several years ago I tried Rogaine for a few months, I ended up with chest pains and palpatations. I'm not the fittest of people but a couple of weeks after I stopped using it the pains went away. Haven't tried it since!
That's my story..
I habe been using the "big three" for now appx 4 years. That is: Minoxodil (as e.g. in Regaine), Finasterid (as e.g. in Propecia) and a shampoo containing "ketoconazol", like e.g. "KET".
Have been experiencing no side-effects. However, your mileage may vary.
Effect is that it has stopped my HL, however no regrowth. BTW I'm 40 and have started with at the age of 36.
Don't expect any miracles, most users are only able to maintain their status and some fortunate ones are able to recover fully.
Best is to start as early as possible, regrowing lost areas is much harder than keeping what you got.
P.S. it is possible to use the much cheaper "proscar" instead of propecia, if you cut a proscar pill in 4 to 5 pieces. Browse the web, tons of info on that.
This might seem a bit extreme but perhaps estrogen would regrow your lost hair? Just a thought, I dunno.
Your gonna think im joking but im not, try pure onion juice, read about it , and you will see it isnt bullshit, James
Try both. They work well together and will make a difference. They work in different ways, so you will not experience any kind of an overdose effect. Talk to your doctor about it.
