OK guys and gals, Been wanting to know? What do you think of my looks without glasses. Just completed cataract and astigmatism correction surgery in both eyes. Have worn glasses since I was 15, 48 yrs ago and got very used to my look with glasses. Had eyelid surgery when I was 4 yrs old. 54 yrs ago and have had one eye that appears smaller than the other. Always thought I looked better with my glasses on but really like the fact that I don' have to wear them anymore, accept to read. Ah yes and the hair is still growing well into my 58th year of age and 6th year of growing out the sides since the barbershop blew up!!

Looking good!
Thanks you much Matt!

Great update, my friend :) Congratulations on the "new lease on eyes," and, as always, awesome hair.

Val, Thanks for the compliments!

Great look. I envy you your beard. Genetics fo thick beard growth just wasn't in the original spec when my plan was laid out. I understand the wearing of glasses, Have worn them off and on my whole life. Finall off permanently, except for very small print reading, after I had cataracts removed from both eyes several years ago.
Rktect,
Thanks for your great comments.

Congratulations! I had the cataract job 2-1/2 years ago, and now I see like a teenager. I need reading glasses (really cheap at Walgreen's) if print is small in dim light, but in daylight I don't need glasses at all. And at distance, my doctor said my vision is 20/10, which means I can read stuff twice as far away as people who have 20/20 vision. Incredible.
I still can't recognize people worth a damn, though. But that's not an eyeball problem, it's a brain problem.
That's interesting, because I have that situation, too. When my doctor first noticed it, he thought I had a serious disease that causes one eyelid to droop, and had tests run, which of course came back negative. He just never noticed something that shows up in pictures in me going way back.
You can see it in the picture on my home page:

Bill,
Never noticed that trait in you until now. Suppose it's not that noticeable in me either. I'm just a little self conscious about it knowing it is there. Come to think about it only eye doctors have ever noticed it in me or said anything about it in the past.
peace, jonalbear
Yeah, I never noticed it in me either, until the doctor pointed it out and I went looking at old pictures. I don't notice stuff about faces much, even my own.
Now if something is different about my HAIR, I will notice THAT!
Bill
Looks great jonalbear! You are lucky. You look very good either way. Funny how eyes can work. At 17 I needed them (contacts) and by 45 the bone structure around the eyes had changed so that glasses were no longer needed. Now the bone structure has changed again so glasses are in order.........but only for distance. Just as well for I am presently in my "John Lennen Beetles" mode look with the hair for a while as it continues to grow.
Wishing you a nice weekend and please say hello to JohnS for me.
Justin~
Hello to you too Justin,
Thanks for looking over my jonalbear and his fine hair. ;-)
All of my warmest to you, John S.
Justin,
It's funny I still find myself pushing my glasses up my nose even though they are not there!

Hi JB!
You do look much different without the glasses but in a good way:)However wearing glasses isn't as unfashionable as it used to be since there are so many choices of frames and lenses.Still if you can avoid the eyewear why not be free from it.Also your hair is looking as great as ever and the beard nice and full too!Looks like the perfect picture my friend.Cheers
Mark
Thanks Mark,
I'm really liking how my
hair and beard look nowadays.

A great look and inspiration to all of us "on the road"
Ian,
It makes me feel good to think I might be an inspiration to others. Thanks!

Hi Jonalbear,
First of all, congratulations on your successful surgery, and I am delighted that all went well. The hair is looking great, of course, and you look great with or without glasses.
I will also be 58 years old this year. So far, I have been "fortunate", in not needing glasses, and can still read just fine without them. However, I cannot focus closely on really small print any more, so I am sure it is only a matter of time before I will need them for reading, at least.
Take care,
David
David,
Thanks for your kind words. Reading glasses are very cheap and easy to adjust to! Just need to find your right magnification. Mine is a +250.

Looking good there John! Either way is great.
I know I much prefer the way I look without glasses but I cheat and whenever I post a picture here it is always without them.
I had worn contacts for a few years but stopped when they discontinued making a type I could use. Not sure if there is something I can try now but I have such high astigmatism that if the contacts rotate too much then I can't see for awhile.
Very inconvenient if you happen to be doing something important like driving :)
Anyway awesome picture John, glasses or not you take a great picture. Take care!
Thanks Chris,
I never tried contacts. Got too used to glasses and the way I looked with them I guess.

Looks good.
I would never have assumed you'd had all that stuff done.
Still can't tell even knowing, lol.
But yeah, looks good.
Thanks Smitts, I'm flattered!

Mark, Patience my friend, you'll get there! btw you have nice hair yourself!

Wow, now you look younger than ever! You have locks to be very proud of. I'm very happy that everything went well with your eyes. I have to use glasses when at a computer. I don't like wearing them!
Jason, Thanks for the high praise.

Looking very good there jonalbear!

Yes I think so, thanks Luckskind!

I've only seen your avatar pic (as far as with glasses) but you look very cool this way. Your beard fits you well and you appear very friendly.
Thanks Allen,
I am quite pleased with my look and am quite friendly I believe.

Let me add to the praises of those that say you're looking good! While I haven't had to have surgery, my eyes have improved enough in the past 10 years to the point I'm no longer required to wear eyeglasses to drive. Since reaching that point I only wear them when I really need to see something. LOL (I have 20/30L 20/40R vision) I love the freedom to choose to wear (sun)glasses as a fashion choice rather than being tied to a single pair. If you consider the different ways you can wear your hair along with the different styles of sunglasses you're free to choose from, you can look like a totally different person every time you go out if you choose. :)
So take your new found freedom and run with it!
