Here I sit, grooving to 'Marco Polo' by Loreena McKennit, and overjoyed that today, at school, someone said something nasty about my hair under their breath, loud enough for me to hear! At last! Take THAT, snobby wannabe-upper-class 'big city' conformist mentality!
Incidentally, I'm one of four longhairs at school. Two of them tie it back, and one dosen't. Of the two, one has really curly hair, so it looks kind of short. I have the shortest hair *sniffle* but it's getting there! I can almost see the end of my ponytail if I yank it forward.......just a bit more...grrr! And of ourse there are the Amazing Flying Eye-Stabbing Bangs. Ahrgh.
In other things, how can I stop my tail from curling? It wants to sit on my left shoulder but it's not long enough, and I don't want it to do that! And it's all puffy! What's going ooooonnnn???
My hair's not real long yet (almost to my shoulders, but not quite). I tie mine everyday for work, though. What I do is brush it out while it's dry and then tie it back. Then take a water spray bottle and spray water on it and slick it all back (wash your hair the night before-use a little shampoo if any). Twist the tail into one lock of hair while it's wet-it'll dry looking shorter, but it stays more centered. Once it dryies it'll stay that way-don't brush it. If water doesn't hold too well-try slicking it back with gel.
I've been doing this for about a year and it's almost gotten me through the awkward stage without a bad hair day!
Hope this helps!
Marty
First, keep up with the hair--I at a University predominantly known for its business school, so you should see some of the looks I get :-)
Anyway, it sounds to me as if you are putting your tail in from the left-hand side, hence, the hair wants to hang over that side. I had a similar problem (and still do if I'm in a hurry) but if you take the time to center the tail with a little sort of tug/slide to the other side, all should sit well.
In terms of looking puffy...well, that's partly due to length, but the other suggestion that you got should definitely help.
