Hey everyone,
Every so often I change my part just to vary things up. I switched my part a few days ago because I noticed the hair at the very front was about half as long as the rest. I wasn't sure what had happened, because I take such great care of my hair (no heat, air dry, organic shampoo/conditioner, wash 1-2 times a week) I didn't think it would be broken.
Today I noticed the same problem at the new part. Attached is a picture of what I'm talking about. Is this normal, or is it something I should be concerned about?
Thanks!
Hey Rich,
The front of your hair needs to catch up to the back, especially if you want to have a full thick ponytail look. You will need to take more hair off the back than the front in the beginning. Expect it to be hard to manage with hair falling in your face constantly. Once all your even length hair grows out many inches, the next step is wearing a braid. You're in the awkward stages now. All will catch up with time, just be patient.
As for your hair part, given that you're starting this look, I recommend you finger comb your hair straight back to avoid the part as it doesn't help. However, I will admit that I wear a part in the center since I'm a bit lazy and my hair has grown accustomed to it.
JMM- great advice!
My hair is a bit passed shoulder now and my bangs still don't reach the hair tie--But I'm cool with it because it's long enough to put behind my ears--As for the part- Sometimes I like it slightly off centered and at times I like it in the middle--I usually don't like the slick back look unless I'm at the beach---I rather have the 60's 70's ish retro look lol...I'm happy because my hair can actually be put in a braid which is cool...I usually do this when I go too bed because my hair has been a bit annoying when trying to sleep, I keep pulling in my sleep when I turn over...
Hi Rich,
J.M.M. pretty much covered it, but I would like to also add that often hair right at the hairline tends not to grow as long or as quickly as the rest of your hair.
For instance, right at my temples hair only grows a few inches long. The hairs where my sideburns meet my beard still don't reach the hair tie even though all the rest of my hair could fit a year ago.

Thanks to you both. So basically what you're saying is that some being shorter than others around the edges is normal?
Also, JMM, I'm not sure if the picture hides the length of my hair or not, but it can all go into a high tail, just not a low one yet.
I agree with the info in the other messages posted here:
If having an 'effective' ponytail is your goal, the front
(bangs) will have to grow until it reaches the first band
of a high or low tail. It takes time; all longhairs with
ponytails had to go through it. Guess you can take some comfort
in knowing that.
Best wishes and good luck on your Longhair Journey!
