Hi guys,
I've been reading some of the posts here and thought I'd intro myself. I decided a while ago, after years of trying various haircuts (and no-hair cuts) to try and grow my hair longer. Not just longer (which it's been) but WAY longer (which it's never been.) I don't know how far I'll get. I tried in 9th grade (way back in 19mumble muble) and again in college, and once more a few years out of college, but even if I let the back grow longer (the longest I think was about down to my shoulder blades in back) I never seem to get the top or sides long enough. So, now I'm 43, I work at an old-west theme park, and dammit, I've decided to grow it out. Oddly, I've got a hairdresser friend who's also growing out his hair, so we've got this in common and he's the first guy I've known who can keep my hair looking neat as it grows out and I don't feel like he's trimmed it *shorter* - just *neater.* (Does that make any sense? You'd have to see it.) No pics yet... no length really to speak of, but it's shaggier than I'm used to and I'm excited to see if I can at least make it to Christmas. If I can get that far, then a March 27 anniversary can't be THAT hard to do. (I've gone more than a year before... can I do TWO years this time?)
So, I'm just saying hey and hoping for some encouragement.

Welcome Cos. Be encouraged! Many of us here tell a similar story. I am 42, and I never had long hair before now. I began growing it out in October of 2000, so I am approaching the two year mark--just passed the year and a half mark. I have not had anything cut--at all--since I started growing out. I would like to know how your friend is keeping your hair neat. I think that after I hit the two year mark, I will try and get some edges evened up, but I really am leary about going near scissors until I am very clear about what I am asking for.You will find this list full of encouragment and advice.
