Following in the footsteps of Green Bay's Clay Matthews, Brady has continued to let his hair grow and is now sporting a small ponytail! I feel so elated over this. When mainstream celebrities show off their long hair proudly, it makes it easier on the rest of us. It sets a good example for young people and their parents.
It is so awesome to see many NFL players with long hair. It seemed like it was only black players for a long time but now white players are joining the ranks.
This is a victory.

I just saw that Jason and was going to post about it to this very board. This is one of the BEST things to happen to guys with long hair or who are desiring to have long hair. Funny how some people were saying he looked like a "Girl." Great ammo now for those being hasseled by parents, friends etc. ESPECIALLY because it involves the beloved sports crowd and so many seem to live for. And of all the sports: Football!
I DO believe a great victory towards long hair and less discrimination in the months and years ahead. Perhaps something like this is at long last going to crack the short hair societys ability to put guys down with long hair.
Justin~
It's great ammo indeed! There's nothing "girly" about the size of most football players. Most also have a macho bravado about them that is anything but feminine. Their long hair only adds to their masculinity.
Onward!
Excellent observation! See my post above yours about profession figure skater John Zimmerman, another celebrity longhair who fought from his teens to exert his right to self-expression, and has been longhaired ever since.
Your example is even more inspiring as he had to battle for years to keep his hair. As far as I know, football players are not harassed about their hair. The only professional team of any sport that I'm aware of that practices open hair discrimination is the execrable New York Yankees.
He may not have had any "official" harrassment, but he caught plenty of grief from the media.
I dont watch football so I am not a fan of Tom Brady, but it really makes me sick to see him harrassed by the media. How is it anyone's business how he or any other athlete / actor / or celeb wears their hair?! I dont care if the man has terminal length hair or is bald or has a bright pink 4 foot tall mohawk, its not the media or anyone else's place to bash him for it. He is the one who has to look at it in the mirror everyday. As long as it doesnt interfere with his job as a football player, who cares!! I was so mad when I read someone's comment on one of these "news sites". Somebody commented "he has long hair?! is he going gay?!" How in the world is he going gay if he is dating or maried to one of the hottest super models on the planet?! Sorry for the rant but stuff like that just really eats me up.
No apologies needed, I feel the same way, and would suspect most of the board regulars would agree. How he wears his hair is his business, whether that's a buzz-cut or terminal length, or anywhere in between.
And calling a pro quarterback who's married to a supermodel either girly or gay is just plain ridiculous. But that just goes to show the level of intellect of your average media dweeb.

Hi Jason,
It is great to see more prominent men sporting longhair and hopefully that trend continues. The more and more society sees this the better it is for us regular folk who also want some hair too:)Let just say we are winning some battles but the goal is to win the war!YEA!
Mark
It all serves to help society see that there is nothing abnormal about men with long hair. If it works for Tom Brady earner of $20 million per year and married to a supermodel, then perhaps more men will explore having long hair and maybe discover their hidden longhair identities.
Thats really cool Jason, I don't know of the guy coming from the UK as I do, but we have many footballers with longish hair, and the music scene is full of longer haired guys and beards are really popular here too (especially in the trendy urban areas) - so yeah its all good!!
Cheers Dave
It's great to see it becoming more mainstream. It's not that this will affect our decision to have and keep long hair but it's nice to have more company! :)
Yea Dave you are correct---I'm originally form Uruguay an just about all the futbol players have long hair which is very cool---I admire that Futbol (soccer) players enjoy their long locks!
