Hey all,
A bit back I posted a picture of the front most part of my hair, which seemed to be shorter than the rest. It wasn't a good picture so I took two more today (one with my hair up, one down) to try to better show what it looks like. Attached here is the first, and I will do a self-reply to post the second. Is my hair breaking at the front, and is it natural for it to be this short in the front? my hair can fit nicely into a medium-high ponytail, but i still have, what appears to me at least to be, a lot of really short hairs sticking out all over the place. Is that natural as well? Thanks!
Second picture.
Yes hair is continuously regenerating: Each hair has a finite life and eventually falls out as is replaced by another - which obviously starts short.
Some also have a shorter terminal length - you can't grow a pony tail on your legs and neither do side burns grow to 12" in length!

I tend to agree with UK. You will always have new growth. My hair is over 3 feet long and I still have 10 or 15 percent that does not reach the ponytail tie. Shorter flyaway hairs are a reality for all who have long hair.

It is simply a fact of life. Don't worry about it.
Older hair gets broken, tangled, falls out, etc.; meanwhile, new hair grows in - and this happens every day.

My hair is well past my belt-line, and I still have a number of short hairs that crop out here and there. Hairs break, and they just get old, fall out and start over, so you're always going to have some short ones. Nature of the beast.

I have quite alot of shorter hairs in front and on top of my head, probably more than you. Don't worry about it, though. They are just new strands growing in where older hairs were shed. As natural as can be.
As has already been said, it's perfectly normal. My hair isn't as long as a lot of the people here yet but my bangs currently reach just below my chin, but if I look close I still have little 2 inch hairs all over the place. They just fall out completely and have to regrow from the scalp, or break at varying points along the length and then keep growing from there. It's not just at the front either, they are like that all over your head, it's just more noticeable near the forehead because they stand out more, whereas say on the top or back of your head they are blending in with all the other hairs.
I always have shorter hairs at the front and also the right side over the ears wierdly enough. I think its natural and certainly nothing to worry about - worry will make your hair fall out ;)
Cheers Dave
