saw this post from a friend who follows Native American issues, but it struck a chord with me for long-haired men and boys.

This is shocking and deeply disappointing. Here we are in 2011 and this sort of bigotry and barbarism still exists.
Enough is enough. Wars, Japan in a state of dissastor with over 18,000 deaths so far. Economic collapse just on the horizon. Meanwhile SIMPLE STUPIDIC MINDS can only think about a Native Americans long hair? I wonder if these moron "educators" have seen some of the old photos of the MASS MURDER BURRIAL TRENCHES (ala Hitlers Germany) dug by US (hero) soldiers as they pushed westward to conquer all and obliterated these wonder people who respected Mother Earth. (Afterall, such heros were they winning the West.) Native Americans had their rights STOLEN. They were ROBBED of THEIR land, (it WASN'T OURS), and, by the thousands MURDERED! Come on you educated idiots, get real! Try and see (if at all possible with your "society cultured amoebic brains" what is important in life before mankind exterminates himself!!! Hey educators, got an idea for you. Why not part with some of your FIAT CURRENCY (and maybe even with a minute or two of your ever most valuable time) to try and help some human beings for a change. That's right, "help." (Ever heard of that?) And stop your yelping about those pitiful salaries you make complete with every benefit in the book. Yeah, I know, you all work so hard with so little time off. And of the Summers: don't they just fly away so quickly.

ps: Photo above and about it. Sickening!!!!!!!!
U.S. soldiers pose over a mass grave trench with some of the 300 bodies of innocent Native American Lakota Sioux, two-thirds women and children, massacred at Wounded Knee, Pine Ridge Reservation. One of the few survivors of the massacre was a baby girl, found 4 days after the massacre, lying beneath her mothers dead frozen body, her mother having protected her in death as she had in life. The baby girl, having survived the massacre and the blizzard with temperatures at 40 below zero, was then abducted by Brigadier General Colby as a trophy of the massacre, in his own words a most interesting Indian relic.
Well put, Justin. It is nothing short of horrific what was done to the Natives in North America. Apparently that wasn't enough. Now the Powers That Be are trying to deny them (and other longhairs) the right to an education. It's truly sick.
This is truly disturbing. It makes me very sad to think there are still people in this world who have such biases against those different than them. I am also part Native American (Cherokee) so this hits fairly close to home.
Hi Rich,
My girlfriend is partially Cherokee and she loves my long hair. She was looking for a man with long hair in searching the dating web site she found me on. We're both long haired. I figure if any nationality would accept me for my long hair it would be among the Native Americans. I guess you can say I'm happy to join the tribe so that we may have more long haired children to populate this world to make it a better and freer place.
Greetings,
J.M.M.
Anyone that accepts people for who they are is terrific in my book! Also, continuing the trend of long hairs is a-ok too! My girlfriend loves my hair too and is excited to see how long I grow it to =]
My Iroquois Mohawk blood is boiling right now, I wonder what idiots I can express my outrage to? I have yet to see any of these educators explain what hair length has to do with the learning environment?
Just a few days ago, the news was reporting that suicide rates among Native American youth and young adults is at an all-time high; and you wonder why? The white man continues to suppress their identity and strip them of their culture, that's why.
Here in Phoenix. we have Indian School rd. on which was a large complex where Native American Children were pulled from there families and sent to be "civilized' in the White mans' ways. Of course all the boys hair was shorn, often into a sugar bowl cut. Today, this is all kept on record, not celebrated, but as a reminder of what was done to existing cultures. the Romans would do the same to Celtic and Gaulic prisoners as well. to insure they knew who was boss. I actually had a friend. (in jest,I was assured) pull on my tail yesterday and make a statement regarding cutting it off. I wheeled around and informed him it would his last act. He is follicly challenged, so there may be that measure of jealousy, and I fired that shot across his bow as a warning. Some people just don't get it.
Hello, fellow Iroquios. As an Iroquois Seneca, I feel the same as you do. This story makes me absolutely furious.
I hear you, my Iroquois brother; I wish I had an email or snail mail address for the administration or school board at the school, so I could express my outrage. >:| (fuming)
You mean biggotted eejits (Idiots)??? What's a 'white man' anyway?? (I've never seen one) Saw a white horse on a cliff once though.. stunning :)
I wonder what the reaction would have been if the boy had been Sikh. Would they have suspended him then?
Hard to say regarding the Sikhs. Maybe not, since the hair is bunned and then covered. You can't physically see the long hair this way.
I really don't get it though. In general long hair doesn't disrupt learning in school (unless students concentrate on plaiting it [for example] or stare at it due to its incredible beauty [like I did]).
Women can have long hair too, without problems, and as long as they want, so what's the big deal?
Don't think this problem is limited here. I can image Catholic schools not being too friendly to long haired men (I am not [Western] Catholic). Every time I pass by a Catholic school, I never find a long haired guy in the crowd. I stand out like a sore thumb with them around as I pass them by on the street.
Catholic Parochial schools, along with most private Christian schools, have dress codes and grooming policies. In general, you won't see a boy with long hair in these institutions, the most they might allow is something akin to what the Beatles wore. But these are private institutions, and they have a right to make rules, you don't have to send your kid there. Public schools are just that, "public", and the law requires your child attend one, or you pay to send them to a private institution, or you home-school them using a state-approved program. Limiting the length a boy can grow his hair, serves no purpose in the public school system.
It varies from school to school. Of course, in Catholic schools
they wear uniforms too. I do know that the school where I previously lived allowed the boys to have long hair for one reason, they were growing it for donating to one of the charities that make wigs for alopecia and cancer patients. At school, the boys tailed their hair, until it was sufficiently long enough to donate. I know one boy who did this repeatedly, I think he's a secret longhair and this was a way to skirt the rules until he graduates. ;) Most of the kids I knew were home-schooled, and nearly all the home-schooled teenage boys I knew, had hair shoulder-length or longer.
I suspect that Catholic school boy will grow it and keep it once in college, and no longer donate it. I am only aware of one Catholic College that requires short hair for men, Christendom in Front Royal Virginia. Mount St Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland (where I previously lived prior to my current location in Delaware), has NO such policies. I saw plenty of young Catholic men with long hair, including two seminarians from Father Benedict Groeschel's order, in their Franciscan habits with long ponytails hanging over their capuches.
It was an interesting sight among a sea of short-haired seminarians, as most Bishops, sadly, have grooming codes for the priests that serve in their dioceses. The Franciscan Friars of the Renewal is one of the few religious orders where the priests and brothers may have long hair, which they traditionally tail at the nape of the neck. Fr Stan Fortuna is probably the most well-known of longhaired priests from this order, and is a co-founder along with Groeschel. There is a Franciscan house that consists entirely of long-haired ponytailed Franciscans.
So, while you won't see longhair beyond maybe shoulder-length, in most Catholic schools, you will at most Catholic Colleges. Interestingly, Liberty University, the Evangelical College founded by Reverend Jerry Falwell many years ago, has undergone a number of changes since his death. The young men attending are not restricted in regards to hair length. Jerry Falwell, Jr, the son, has relaxed a lot of his father's previous restrictions. The Wednesday campus evening devotions are shown on cable on JCTV, the youth minister leading them may be follicularly-challenged, but I noticed as they panned the cameras around the room, quite a few male students had flowing locks. The campus music ministry that leads the worship portion has a member with longhair pulled in a ponytail hanging down his back. The point is that Catholic/Christian colleges/universities tend to be far less restrictive than regular schools.
I do know of one Catholic school that does allow long hair for the males, it is an Indian school that serves the children at a reservation in the Dakotas. They actually encourage the students to be a part of their cultural roots, and encourage the local dress and hair customs of the tribe. I have been supporting them for decades; in the mailings they send there are pictures of children in the classroom with their hair traditionally plaited/braided, boys and girls.
We can't really compare public schools with private institutions. Public schools are tax-supported public institutions, and as such the attendees should have much of the constitutional rights as citizens, though they are minors and the constitution does allow the school to act in loco parentis and therefore restrict them. Such restrictions should be reasonable and uniform, and apply to male and female alike. Policies governing the length of a male students hair are inherently sexist in nature, there is simply no valid argument to have them in the public school system. All the reasons for boys to not have long hair could equally apply to girls.
That was very interesting. Thank you for sharing this information.
I think that long haired young men and their families are more likely to do homeschooling since such people and free spirited and don't like being under the thumb of the state.
I wonder how the Eastern Orthodox Church views long hair on male grade school students? I know that long hair is considered traditional in Orthodoxy. Curious if anyone knows further details about this?

I hate that term 'Native American', these ancient tribes were natives on that land before it was called 'America' so they should be naming it.. :)
Anyhoo, back to this young man. Can I ask (or ask yourself) Why does he - or anyone else for that matter - have to use the 'cultural' and/or 'religious' stick for this?? Can people not just be people?? We all like different things and we are all the same and unique.
I hope he wins.
I have to agree with your post Asdis.Especially the part about why can't anyone who wants to sport longhair be able to do so without ridicule. Why do you have to have some sort of religious belief or cultural reason to have longhair but the heck with the rest of you? That's not fair either I feel. For men it should be like it is for women. If your want short hair that's fine but if you want long locks then go for it:)You also make a good point about the Native American argument too.Cheers
Mark
"be able to do so without ridicule"
exactly :)
I couldn't but agree with you more.
In an ideal world, that is what it should be; but if this youth wins, that gives a bit of ammunition to those who wish to fight for the rights of all, regardless of gender, religion, etc. Small victories open the door for bigger ones; isn't that how many civil rights came about?
I hope he wins too!

But isnt it sad that humans have been on the planet for hundreds of yousands of years, how many cutures have came and went, how many empires have came and went.. and where are we?
e.g. 2011 'America' - land of the free, justice & liberty for all - for how many hundreds of years??
And here we have a young guy fighting to go to school, to have an education and look & feel the way he wants, and he is denied that because of what exactly?? Isn't it a shame??? blah.. ok rant over :)
Amen, Carol! I lived in Louisiana for 6 years and it was impossible not to notice how behind the times that state is. The people there do not realize that they have individual rights, and that they can fight for them. I hope this young man wins this, gets to keep his hair, stay in school, and sets a much needed example for those around him.
So, if we wanna have long hair then we have to be part of a religious group? Makes no sense to me. I thought in the U.S.A. we could wear our hair as we pleased. Perhaps we are not the "free" country that we pretend to be.
jeffrey
Perhaps? How about "we are not."

America has become nothing but a fascist dictatorship owned by the Federal Reserve. These globalist minded, genocidal banking elites have been the downfall of all virtue, liberty, prosperity and goodness since their inception in 1913. Is it any coincidence that World War I happened immediately after the Federal Reserve Act was passed along with the creation of the Internal Revenue "Service"? These European Anglo-American clowns (The Rothschilds and Rockfellers) who print our worthless paper money from thin air with added interest and are able to prosecute those who create legitimate privately minted lawful money as described in Article 1 Sections 8 & 10 of the United States Constitution need to be shut down and prosecuted! END THE FEDERAL RESERVE BANKING SYSTEM! COINED GOLD AND SILVER IS LAWFUL MONEY!
It's shocking that this still goes on. Publicly owned schools have to take everyone, so that should mean they have to take them as they are, not make physical changes to them. If they make the kids take a bath or even wear clown suits I don't care, but you can't cut off your hair during the day and then wear it long on your own time, and that should be the limiting factor. It's also 100% sexist, as it only ever applies to boys. Bottom line, it's b*llsh*t, and that's indisputable.
