i had previously tried to grow long hair and had not cut them for about seven or eight months, but had to cut them down because of my teachers and college who would not allow it. during this period i used to wet my hair a lotand used to pull them up. i have again started growing long hair for about six months but this time around my hair at the front are very thin whereas the hair at the back are all right. apart from thsi my hair also semm to be falling a lot more these days(atleast 5-6 hair in a day) as i am only 19 years old this worries me. more over my hair line at the forehead seems to be going higher. please suggest what i should do or apply to thicken my hair an to prevent my hair from falling. also what would be the ideal length to start tying a ponytail.

I have a bit of a hair loss problem myself. I started taking Propecia several weeks ago, but I can't tell if it's working or not. Another avenue is to try Rogaine, or a generic version of it (if you can find one.) I'm not sure what you have access to, but those are the two most popular treatments in the U.S.

ps. Most folks will tell you that 9 inches or more is what you need for a ponytail, but it's up to you. Check out Jack Nicholson's mini-pony in "Witches of Eastwick." If you don't like bangs, however, then wait a little longer before you don that hair tie. :)
I see from your e-mail address that you're in India. Bigotry against longhaired men seems to be ubiquitous. -sigh-
Sikhs have to wear their hair long. But I can see why they may have to hide long hair in turbans.
I would go to these annual Hare Krishna wagon parades (Festivals of the Chariots) where the Christian fundamentalists would make fun of the "Hairy" Krishnas ("Hindus") for shaving their heads except for the pony-tails.
Long-hair hippies used to embrace "Eastern" (that's not of the Americas and Europe) religions such as Hinduism and Buddahism. Remember Ravi Shanker's sitar?
I certainly do- I went to a concert in Munich where Ravi and Yehudi Menuhin played sitar and violin. It would be 1972, just before the Olympics. A lot of longhairs at that concert!
Yikes! What college is this?
You might want to look at www.hairsite.com. They have tons of info on hairloss.
Minoxidil and Propecia (finasteride) are available on the web through pharmacy sites.
