This may seem like a dumb question but I was wondering: which do you all think is best for the health of your hair? Taking a bath or a shower? Or is there no difference in your opinion? Reason why I ask: The first time in my life that I had long hair was from 1992 or 1993 until 2002. During this time of my life I lived with my parents in a very old house. We only had a bath tub and no shower in this house. So obviously, I would wash my hair by laying down in the tub and completely soaking and submerging my hair in the water as I washed it. During this period of time, my hair looked amazing. It looked just like Brad Pitt's hair from Interview with the Vampire (the only thing about me that could ever be compared to Brad Pitt LOL). It was totally straight with no frizz and was VERY healthy. I then cut all my hair off in 2002 for a 5 year tour of duty with the local Fire Dept as a paramedic(despite being forced to be a short hair during this time, it was one of the proudest periods of my entire life). Then in 2007 I changed careers and decided to regrow my hair. Living in a house with a shower, I no longer take baths (showers are so much faster!). I washed my hair in the shower but used the same shampoos and conditioners as always but as my hair re-grew this second time around, it was not the same hair at all. It grew out very curly, course, dry and frizzy. Due to excessive heat damage from straighteners that I used in an attempt to tame my hair, I have had to cut all my hair off and am now regrowing it. So I ask: if I took baths instead of showers, would my hair grow in healthier and better like when I was younger? Or will it make no difference? Or is my hair type changed permanently now? I really want my Brad Pitt hair back LOL
Hi Element, firstly, I'm no expert, but like you, only have a shower - and a "power shower" at that. Well, the power is great for cleaning all the bit and pieces, but for my hait, I turn the power off and just use a gentle and not too hot flow - a bit like washing under a rain shower. Seems to work for me at least. Anyhow, good luck, you'll be the next Brad Pit in no time!
Bath or shower shouldn't make much difference. Probably your hair just changed in the intervening years.
I would have horrible tangles if I used a bath to wash my hair. My wash routine involves a very strong spray (can you say "scalp massage"!) and that doesn't seem to have affected my hair.
Hair is pretty tough, so if you have average growth (1/2 inch per month) and you are NOT trying for extreme lengths, any reasonable shower routine shouldn't damage the hair. I'm not a curly, so I'll leave to others suggestions for how to get the best results with your type of hair.
I don't think showering will change the overall quality of your hair, however it will tend to rinse out more of the oil which may be what you're experiencing. You may want to do additional conditioning and then apply a light oil after showering. The rest of the change you're seeing may be due to diet or just the normal aging process.

There is absolutely po difference per se between bath and shower for your hair. It is the other things that you do that may make a difference.
I find my (mid-back, wavy) hair gets really tangled in the shower, but not in the bath. I shower daily, but have a bath once a week when I wash my hair.
