hey guys!
not sure who posted on here that they have only been using water to wash their hair...I've actually have been washing my hair with warm water in the shower for the past 10 days...And frankly,i am very impressed considering my hair is very oily...It really leaves my hair shiny and clean with really good texture...I don't know if I will keep doing it indefinitely- but I know for sure that I will cut down on my washings...
I was thinking of cutting back on my washings as well. Maybe I will only use shampoo once every 2 or 3 days, but still use conditioner every time I wet my hair.
This way of washing has always intrigued me. I've tried it for a solid week once, my scalp couldn't take it. Left my hair very greasy. The day I plummeted I grabbed the shampoo and it felt like my scalp was burning. Funny thing is, I have only seen but a few bad reviews of using water only. Hey, if it's working for you, more power to you :)
Michael- if interested in trying again-use really warm water, I tried it before with cooler water and it didn't work as well... I comb my hair all the way back and then in the shower I rinse it several times this way, then I bend my head forward and let my hair hang and rinse several times again, and then I flip it back again and rinse some more...I rinse my hair from every direction possible--Like I mentioned before it does take me longer than when I shampooed...If I can do this with very oily hair then it must work great for others with other hair types...
While I agree with not shampooing more than once a week, I still use conditioner every time I rinse my hair. If I didn't, my hair would be a) gummy and b) tangled, though some of that may be due to quality of our water. Maybe that's why you always see the standard disclaimer: "Individual results may vary." :)

I use water only to wash also, and have great results too. Although the first month was horrible.
I do use condioner in the lenght of my hair (not the scalp) to get the tangles out. I've gone without conditioner for two weeks and it could be done but was a lot more work to get tangles out.
Rinsing my hair as I shower every day. But only shampooing and conditioning every 6th day. My hair is staying full and has good texture. No greasy issues between shampooing. As it has gotten longer, I have increased the time beween shampoos. May stretch it eventually to no more than once a week as the greater length warrants.
Thanks for the great responses and posting your experiences with this...I don't use conditioner because I figured that my hair is oily-therefore I don't think I need it-I do comb it before I hit the shower and afterwards no problems at all with tangles...I even had my mom ask me what I was using on m hair that it looked so full...And when i told her I was only washing with water, she was shocked.(We have the same hair type-oily)...The best part of this is that I can do it as often as I like-for example If I continue with this regime I will probably want too do more often in the Summertime...A friend of mine said that I could use chamomile rinses which will leave a nice scent behind...But guys let me tell u that I am really impressed with this. However,I do spend more time in the shower rinsing it longer than I did with shampooing...And after it's dried I don't need any hair products which is great.(this is coming from someone that used to shampoo his hair everyday because it is so oily)I will keep using this method to keep experimenting...I will post a pic when I can.
Using just water may work for some time but eventually (IMO anyway)
you need to remove some of the older oils, etc. and that usually
requires some kind of cleansing agent.
I have finally settled on TRESemme NATURALS (low sulfates) Shampoo (moisturizing) and then following that with TRESemme NATURALS (silicone free) Conditioner.
Good luck!

hair type and texture. Water only works best on hair that is coarse, curly, or both. My beard is that way. Coarse hair is less numerous (fewer hairs per square centimeter) than fine hair, allowing the water to get in and rinse away dirt and oil. Fine hair (like on my head) is more numerous (more hairs per square centimeter) and does not allow the water to reach the dirt and oil as well.
I have had complete success on my beard and complete failure on my head hair.
You most likely have coarse hair, Dee.

Your explanation makes sense, and may explain why water only rinsing isn't optimal on my hair - I have very fine hair. It would be interesting to know if it's universally true that fine hair and water only rinsing don't produce good results.
