Sleeping with hair free vs. tied
Which one is better in your opinion, guys?
In fact I always sleep with hair free, because I feel like wearing a ponytail tie 24/7 wears out my hair and breaks it. (And no there is no metal in my ties.) Lately I have been keeping my hair free in the daytime too.
PS. I'm really glad I found this forum. All forums seem to care about women only.
Though I wear my hair in a tail every day, I do wear it loose at night. It just feels better, of course, by morning it has "poofed' back out to it's inate fullness. I brush it with a boars hair brush every morning before showering and it settles it down..for a while, then back to a tail for the day.
I always sleep with mine free. I like the feel of it as I sleep. I very rarely put it in a tail as I don't like the wave that the pony tail holder leaves. I just wish I could find an alice band that would look more manly for windy days. Tommie
Tommie, maybe this for a headband. Take the hair that falls down at the front of your ears, where your sideburns start and make a fine plait. Or a thick one if you want. Repeat on other side. Pull all the hair that's not plaited to the back and tie it with an elastic band. Not too tight though. Then pull each plait up to the place where you would normally put sunglasses on top of your head, or maybe a little bit back. By the looks of your hair you should be able to tie it in a little knot. Do that, then release the band at the back and you'll find your hair is free but never gets in your face. This is how my husband wore his very long hair for our wedding on the beach. Self grown Alice band. Although if you don't like the kink a ponytail leaves, you would have to wet the plaited parts to straighten them afterwards. The elastic band at the back doesn't leave a kink because it's only there for a sec. Cheers.
There is no hard or fast rule for how to sleep with hair. Different hair types, their length and what is particularly suited for each individual differs. And more importantly what style of sleeper you are may influence more how to deal with long hair in bed.
I sleep with my hair loose with hair pulled behind the ear prior to sleeping to keep it away from my face and mouth. As a side sleeper I always removed my hair from the neck area when lying down on a satin pillowcase (which is better for longer hair) and draped it behind.
If you toss and turn frequently in sleep time then tying it back may be a better idea for you or let it loose if you don't move around so much.
True. I'd add that to minimize the risk of loose hair snagging for those toss'n turners, switch to a satin pillowcase as they minimize friction. When I was teen, I slept with tailbone-length hair loose, now I roll mine up and tie it.
Keep your hair down...
It suits you well that way.
Drop me a line when you have time.

I used to wear it down at night, but recently I've worn it in a segmented ponytail. I just make sure all the hair ties are loose. It doesn't seem to do any damage. I actually think it's better because my hair has fewer tangles in it when I wake up. I'd say it's better for your hair to have it tied back, as long as you keep it loose.
Garth-
I do agree-my hair has hit passed my shoulders and when sleeping it's starting to become annoying especially when I toss and turn. (I'm a bad sleeper so I toss and turn in my sleep constantly-my hair is starting to get caught when I turn over and it pulls.)
Therefore, I've been braiding my hair in a pony-tail very lose and it has helped a lot, and less tangles too!
I agree as I don't want my hair ponytailed 24/7 either. At work I just stuff it under a baseball cap to keep it in check and its better protected that way.If I'm outdoors I will tail it as windy days only tangle my hair and I don't want to deal with spending large amounts of time detangling.I sleep with my hair loose but I put on a t shirt and don't pull the length out so it stays pinned between the shirt and my body. That way if I toss around during the night I don't risk pulling my hair.Your hair looks excellent by the way:)Cheers

Welcome to the board Axel!
As the experience of others is indicating, this depends on hair hair type, sleeping habits, etc. My hair is fine and wavy. I usually keep mine in a multi-segment tail or braid when I sleep and during the day.
I use smooth satiny sports jerseys that I find dirt-cheap in thrift stores as low-friction pillow covers.
Doing the above, I seldom have a tangle in my hair which is about tailbone length.

I think sleeping without anything restraining your hair is always better. You hair looks amazing, by the way.
I'm quite restless sleeper, so if I don't braid my hair, it tends to wake me up in the middle of the night. It's bad enough even in a braid as the shorter strands still work their way loose and tickle my face and the braid gets wrapped around my neck. However, I wouldn't be without it.
I'm with you. My hair looks in better shape, more refreshed and less dry when left untied in bed.
I agree, most of these long hair sites only care about women with long hair, like the Long Hair Community. The fetish sites out there are just as bad towards long haired men. Few like us. However I think as male long hair grows with popularity (pun not intended) we will eventually be more sought after and liked by society.
That's very true. Most of the men there are treated very poorly if not part of a small select club.
