Hi all,
I know I've posted on this before, but I am kind of freaking out right now. Very rarely do I put my hair back, but today I decided to do a half tail. After I put it up, I noticed that hair growing from the very edge in the front (shown in the pictures below) were much shorter than the rest and did not reach the tail. My girlfriend says its what she calls "baby hair", that is hair that either grows very slowly, or just has a really hard time growing and she had the same problem. Then again, before she cut it short, she straightened it and use a hair dryer and died it a lot, so hers could have been breakage. Hopefully the pictures below can give you a better understanding and explain what is actually going on.
Thanks!
Rich
Hi Rich,
I wouldn't worry about those shorter hairs as I actually have ones like that myself but thankfully it mixes with the longer ones so its not all that noticeable.Apparently there are some areas on your head where the hairs don't get all that long.Another is at the very base of your neck.So don't worry and continue the journey my friend:)

Exactly. There's no point in stressing about it.
It's the same on everyone. The hairs at the margins tend not to grow very long. It's not a problem if you usually wear your hair loose, but if it's normally tied back, they can look untidy. Mine have never grown much beyond a couple of inches and they stick straight out. After two years or so, I gave up on the idea that they might grow long enough to tie back, and I normally give them a quick going over with a No.2 to neaten them up every month or so.
Hello Rich,
What you are experiencing is a completely normal phenomenon and something you have to deal with while having long hair. At the edges of the hairline, hairs never grow to full length and will not reach a hair tie no matter how long you let them grow.
All along my forehead at the perimeter of my hairline I have little 1-2 inch hairs that never grow beyond that length. I think it is a normal result of aging where men experience a bit of thinning even if they do not have an actual balding pattern. As you mention above the sideburn area I have a group of hairs just like yours that grow enough to be tucked behind the ears but that's about it. I see these on women too so I think it is universal.
This really annoyed me at first but I found ways to tuck these hairs under that long ones so that they would be encompassed when my hair was tied back. If I'm out on a windy day, short hairs will inevitably be loose and poking me in the face, so I use a bit of aloe vera or gel formulated with natural ingredients to tame them.

Simple
Stress, excessive heat, bad diet, not enough H20,sleep, etc and over thinking your hair will do more damage than your natural growth pattern and of course genetics, which you can overcome unless you are bald..
Dont mess with it too much, like your favorite shirt. if you wash it every day it will wear out very quick,as all your long hair is dead hair...
You are ok, and try to do an oil treatment 1-2X per week. (dabur vatika, leave it in your hair for a few hrs, don't wash your hair too much and conditioner is your best friend is what works for me).
Let it grow and let it flow..
No stress express....
I have what is med hair for 30+yrs
as far as the brave few on this board, and am happy with this.
Think the movie "what is eating gilbert grape"
This is completely NORMAL! This is NOT a sign of male pattern hairloss. Relax!
Thanks for the replies everyone! I'll try my best not to stress and remind myself its a natural occurrence!
Again, that's absolutely nothing to worry about. Some hairs just grow shorter and weaker by nature. Those hairs bug me too, but what can you do?
Hi Rich
Yep I have those too, in fact I have a lot at the moment, very annoying but natural. The hair above my ears also grows very much slower, to the extent that it has never fitted properly into a tail after 5 years. Grrrrrr.
