We've all encountered familiar milestones along our long hair journeys: hair covering the ears, long enough in front to reach the chin, the first ponytail, long enough to braid, falling in our faces when we bend over, having to watch out so it doesn't drape into one's food, stuff like that. Today, now that my hair is almost waistlength, I experienced a new milestone -- one I'll be really careful not to experience again. It was a little windy, and I was wearing my hair loose. I climbed into my car and pulled the driver's door shut, with a little snap of the wrist, like I always do. There was a snap all right. It seems my hair didn't make it into the car as fast as the rest of me and I slammed the door on the last six inches of my hair. Owee! I think the wind caught it and whipped it back as I was climbing in or something. I was able to get it out without losing two many strands but a few got pulled out by the roots. Just one more thing to watch out for, I guess! Pic attached showing latest ponytail length.
Congratulations. Been there. It's pretty embarrassing, isn't it, to have to open the door to let your hair in?
Jann,
First, I hope that your hair was not too damaged by accidently closing the car door on your hair.
Second, congratulations on reaching this milestone of having hair that almost reaches your waist. How do you feel about your reaching this length? You should be proud. You should enjoy your hair.
I hope that once your hair reaches your waist you will choose to let it continue to grow even longer. Just remember to pull your hair completely into the car before you close the door.
Raymond
I feel great about getting this far and thanks for asking. I enjoy having it this long a lot. I've had long hair off and on for many years, but this is the longest it's ever been and I'm getting quite a kick out of it. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to be able to grow it long enough to sit on it, which has been a goal of mine for a while. I say that because the ends are starting to be a lot thinner, which tells me I'm reaching terminal. :(
I've had this happen to me too (who hasn't with long hair). In my case(s) however no hair was pulled out due to car doors. I generally wear my hair ponytailed as many people don't like seeing my long hair left loose (especially my family) but others do.
More and more I am beginning to understand the benefits to wearing hair bunned to avoid these sort of problems. My biggest problem with my waistlength hair is it getting caught in chairs. My mom offered a smart solution. Put fabric (like a shirt) over the chair, that way no hair gets caught.
One problem which can be much more serious is hair getting caught in flames, moving machinery like a jitney, printing press wheel or a flame. I think when my hair goes past my waist it will then require being bunned.
I might not be able to get my hair past my waist as it is taking years to make further progress. On the other hand, I think that I am not yet at terminal length since my ends are thick, it's just that my hair is slow to grow. I stayed in a winter environment all year, what do you expect? Perhaps this spring and summer period will show some progess? Only time can say.
I have an advantage too these days as I am now adding olive oil to my hair ends and taking supplements. I am also doing my ends more regularly.

Jann-great hair I can't wait to hit that milestone-minus the door slamming...I guess I would have to worry about getting my hair caught in between subway doors when it reaches that length-since I don't drive lol...But, I went out to dinner with a couple of friends last night and I can finally wear my hair in a split ponytail with a braid...My friend said to me Wow! your hair is getting really long I wish my hair did that...(It made me feel good because in the last month my hair really had a growth spurt)When I lean my head back my hair does touch mid-back-so I guess I'm finally on my way-it's also getting really full lately as all the layers are becoming even in length.
Another thing to watch out for from now on is tying your shoelaces. I've caught my hair a couple of times and not only does it hurt, when you try to stand up, it's pretty undignified too!
Another thing to look out for is sitting on your hair. If you do that, it's nearly impossible to get up again without some contortionist tricks and just generally creating a scene. :)
Beautiful tail, Jann! Good luck reaching your ultimate growing goal! I am female with waist length hair, and can relate to the hair getting caught in the car door! :) One more thing to watch out for: sometimes when I put my seat belt on, I pull it out with room to spare, then buckle it, then let the excess belt length retract. On more than one occasion, some of my hair has retracted right along with the excess belt!!! I have also rolled the car window up and had some hair caught in it. Who knew that driving could be so hazardous to long hair?!?! :) :)
That is just gorgeous, Jann!
The car door will sometimes catch my hair if I don't have it in multiple hair ties as I usually do.
Congrats on the surprise milestone!

You're welcome Jann! Thanks for compliment - My hair is just about touching my tail bone now, and the beard is just past my navel.
