Hey all,
On Monday I started using coconut oil, not only for a deep conditioning treatment, but also because I read that it helps dandruff and keep the scalp healthy. I must say, this stuff meets and exceeds expectations. Not only did it give my hair a nice, healthy shine as well as diminish the flakes and itching on my scalp, but there are absolutely no tangles or knots in my hair (before using coconut oil, I would hit a knot every time I put my fingers in my hair). I cannot wait to continue using it, and just wanted to let everyone know the benefits that I have seen.

I use it sparingly. Too much makes my hair clingy, which actually increases tangling and breakage for me.

Ditto. Although an occasional heavy application before washing out is pretty good for your hair condition.
So whenever I shampoo my hair, can I use the coconut as a conditioner afterwards, and every so often deep condition before washing?

affect how it responds to coconut oil.
My hair is fine, averaging 65 micronsin diameter. I know this because I checked it using a microscope with a measuring reticle. Due to being fine and delicate, any thick oil (if not used very sparingly) will make my hair clingy and tangle prone. I put maybe 3 or 4 drops on the entire length of my hair, which is well over 3 feet long.
If your hair is coarse, you will probably be alright applying it less sparingly than me.

I have very thick, coarse, wavy hair so I guess I could use it every couple of days without worry?
Figure it out yourself. Experiment. Find out yourself what's best for you. I put it on after I wash it sometimes, while still in the shower, to help comb it out, but sometimes I don't need it, as there's still a residue.
I use it different ways at different times. Try all different things, to have as many options as possible. Only you can decide. You need to just experiment & see. Isn't it wonderful?? ;p

Coarse thick wavy hair should tolerate much more oil applied to it without problems. I would recommend trying what John C suggests. Try a little for the first time and adjust upward until you get the desired results.
