Being that I am have been growing it out for quite a while, and seeing as I am in High School, and since I'm doing rowing, need to keep my hair back and out of my face. As much as I like the look of a ponytail, and the ease to make one, some stray strands still manage to get out and annoy me. I an thinking of braiding it...... but, my hair is slighty coarse, thick and curly, and did I mention it's only shoulder length. So........ what do you guys suggest? (I don't plan on cutting it anytime soon!)
Corvus,
Good to hear your into rowing, was not a sculler myself but we canoe in the summer. My hair is a little past my shoulders but I think we're about the same type of hair. When doing physical activity I usaually will make a double pony tail. Starting from the tops of my ears. I pull back my bangs and the side hairs to
About 10:00 ( if looking at side profile of the head ). Then I pull back my hair to a High ponytail which usually cathes the tail of the top ponytail. You can also get a bicyclers cap (a kind of baseball cap w/a small brim ) and wear it backwards.
Hope this helps and enjoy your sport!

You might like to use a hair band like in this link:

Sounds like you may be short of the needed length for braiding to work for you, unless you're looking at cornrows or some such. I'd suggest some form of hat or bandanna.

Hey Corvus,
I'm not a curly; I used to be. Now my hair has body.
How do you like your long hair? How long have you been growing it out? There will be some strands of hair from your sideburns and from the side which will not grow beyond a certain point or they will grow more slowly. Just push them back behind your ears. You could try a gel to help them stay in place.
Keep it growing!
Raymond
Your hair texture you described sounds very similar to mine. Could you post a picture of it?
