Further photographic evidence that Jason Momoa was the right choice.
Val,
Cool Pic, Thanks for the input.
Glinka
Thanks for sharing this. He looks a little small in this picture. Hopefully he looks bigger in the movie. I've been eagerly awaiting this since it was first announced. Only four more months.
At 6 ft. 4 in. and 220 pounds, the actor is actually quite a bit larger than R. E. Howard's vision and description of his character (whom he described as the "physical double" of another of his literary creations, Cormac Fitzgeoffrey, at 6 ft. 2 in. and 210 pounds) Conan isn't supposed to look like a bloated bodybuilder, but have a powerful, "pantherish" physique. I think the casting of Momoa is spot-on.
I agree for the most part. He's not tiny, but his shoulder and arm look a little small in this picture. I think part of it is that he looks to have model muscles to me, which is all ab and chest work. Muscles that look good in pictures, but don't really apply to actual physical activity. His shoulder, which would be used a ton for wielding a sword, looks much smaller than his chest.
I'm glad they picked a lesser known actor, and not just picked someone buff like Dwayne Johnson. I'm hoping for the best and am super excited for the movie. Keep posting all the new info you get on the movie!
You're right in that the shoulder is put to a tremendous amount of use for sword work, although the relatively light weight of a sword and repetitive use is more likely to produce a lithe musculature than a bulky one. Overall, I prefer the "athletic" depiction of the Cimmerian to the "overly musclebound" one, and feel Momoa looks much more the part of a professional swordsman than did Arnold.
As always, it's fun to discuss the character with another true fan! It will be cool to compare notes once we've seen the film.
Have you seen the teaser trailer yet? Here's the link...
Conan (2011) teaser trailer
Yeah I saw that teaser. I was upset that it really didn't show anything. It really was just a tease. I guess we'll just have to wait.
When one sees something like this, and yet hears societys' nibby opinions of mens long hair and how it makes one look like a girl, you truly can tell how far off the mark they all are. Like in outer space! :-0
Thanks for sharing Val
Justin~
Have you seen him in the current HBO series "Game of Thrones"? While I'm sure mostly a hair extension he's got a butt length ponytail. And he's certainly not the only one with a tail as one warrior race equates the length of a man's tail to the time he's been undefeated in battle. From what I've seen so far, the series setting seems to favor those with longer hair.

He kind of reminds me of Frank Frazetta's version of Conan.
Conan just has to have long hair, and this is proof of it.
