Ok, so... 7 months after I last cut my hair...
In all this 'growing out my hair' thing, I believe I've just made my first 'boo-boo'.
Earlier today I was getting ready for work and, before I showered, I found a can of "Coconut Wax" for hair... which I assumed was my dad's...
So, having spent this last month 'desperate' to find solutions to finally tame my wild growing hair, now breaking all records of 'awkward'... I decided to damp my hair, and try a bit of this 'wax', to see if it helped any.
Needless to say, it didn't... it immediately felt greasy and nasty, and I decided to wash it off in the shower. Problem is, it didn't wash off.
I washed my hair 4 or 5 times trying to get it off, and even now, two hours after I showered, it 'still' feels like I've got lard in my hair... it feels awful, and it 'looks' awful and greasy and nasty...
I'd appreciate some advice on this, guys... Short of washing my hair with some kind of solvent, I dunno what else to try...
Thank you...
What did the tin tell you about the contents?
It is dificult to advise on a product of which we have never heard...
the tag on the tin listen some derivatives of paraffin oil... but not much else that sounded 'chemical' and dangerous...
Hence why I used it... =(
Suggests a heavy 'oil' which should respond to shampoo.
You can try a kind of shampoo called "clarifying shampoo"- see the link I included. I don't know if it will work, but it's worth a try.
clarifying shampoo
I dunno where to even begin to look for 'Clarifying Shampoo'... =\
You can check a local beauty supply store, or a large drugstore. It doesn't seem to be that hard to find. Online, sites like amazon.com and drugstore.com have many choices. I've never used it myself, so I can't recommend a particular brand.
If your in the U.S. Sally beaty supply most likely has something like that. James / Tampa,Fl
Hey there, first off, try not to beat yourself up about it because I think most of us make mistakes during our first experiences with growing hair. I'm not really "long" yet but at about shoulder length now and I've gunked it up SERIOUSLY bad a few times, to the point where it felt like I had glue in my hair and I considered cutting it off (glad I didn't!).
If you don't want to look for clarifying shampoo then just take a glass or something, put some baking soda in it (yes, straight up baking soda), and stir it with water until it becomes a paste. Try not to add much water to the baking soda or it will become too watered down to work in like a shampoo and it will just run off your hand, just try and come close to a pasty shampoo consistency. Then just go into the shower, get your hair nice and wet like normal, take your baking soda mix and work it all into your hair real well. Keep working it in for a minute or two (you should hopefully feel your hair start to loosen up) and even use a wide tooth comb if you want to try and work it in thoroughly. Then I'd let it sit for a minute or two and then just rinse it all out, make sure you rinse well.
HOPEFULLY this will help, it's helped me before. Baking soda basically will just strip everything off of your hair and make it naked, but it also makes it VERY dry so you will need to apply some good conditioner or some sort of oil when you're done (I rub a small amount of olive oil onto my hair when it's too dry and frizzy). If you go with oil to moisturize it again then just be careful not to use too much or you'll end up needing to wash it again because it will look and feel greasy (I've also made that mistake, haha), but a small amount applied evenly and brushed in will help it feel smooth and not so dried out, that's my experience anyway.
The only other thing is that I wouldn't recommend baking soda more than once every few weeks because it's so drying and it really strips your hair down. I really only use it if I gunk up my hair really badly by mistake and it's always washed it out so far. Anyway, sorry about your trouble I know how frustrating it is to feel like your hair is ruined, hope this helps, let us know.
Thank you so much!
I'll try your advice before going off to sleep, today.
I'll stop by some store and get baking soda to work on that. And, while I'm at it, maybe try to get some 'real' coconut oil...
