A while back i washed without using conditioner. I did rinse in COLD water instead, though. I used this method during the first 8-9 months of growing, and it worked fine with shorter hair. Here's my results:
Pros:
The hair seemed to get "bigger" and less flat. Huge plus! (see pic)
Faster shower.
Cons:
More tangles.
Worse tangles, which meant more hairs were lost while combing them out.
The hair felt dry and a bit more fragile, even after 2 days.
So while it did have some advantages, the downsides were way bigger, so for now i'll keep using Garnier Fructis conditioner :)
I would agree, and that is the same conditioner I use. I notice it varies between two places (one work related), that I shower. They are on different water systems and I suspect that water hardness has a lot to do with how well the conditioner rinses out.
You should get some cold pressed coconut oil, and put in your hair for about 2-3 hours for a deep condition . 1 time a week. you may have to shampoo twice. but you will reallly feel the difference.
i too wash with cold water only, but i have never used conditioner, ever and my hair is normal and actually grows pretty quick...i think its what you eat & drink that determine how healthy your hair is...the healthier you are the healthier your hair is, but thats just my opinion
Yeah, there's some truth to that. However, i AM healthy, but my hair still needs conditioner to look and feel it's best.
oh i wasn't saying you and your hair weren't healthy is thats what you thought i meant....if conditioner makes your hair feel good then by all means use it, i was just suggesting another option that works for me and migght also work for you
I think the main advantage of a conditioner is to prevent mechanical damage on comb-out after washing it--it provides a kind of lubrication for the process. I also believe that combing out can be very damaging, so a conditioner should be used. It's cheap insurance against unnecessary hair loss. If you blow-dry afterward then it provides some protection against the drier.
As far as cold washes, I wash it in the shower, usually every other day. No way in heck I am gonna take a cold shower! I think hot washing in general will do a better job and is not hot enough to make an real physical difference.
I am no hair expert (there are probably few of them), but I am a physicist! ;}
I tried this too once. Pretty much had the same results. Difficult to detangle, very dried out and hard to manage. One thing I did like, was my hair moved alot more freely and felt cleaner. I'll stick with conditioning :)
Even though my scalp is oily, my ends are really dry, probably because I used product and a blow dryer to get through the awkward stage. I would never get a comb through it without conditioner and a few drops of jojoba oil on the ends.
If it's wet without conditioner, it's like a big damp dreadlock. Plus, I think that fine hair tends to mat more than coarse hair. It certainly breaks easily.
Dont use a blow dryer if you want to get past shoulder length, the heat will damage your hair. let it air dry, just some friendly advice , James/ Tampa,fl im at 25 months, i should know
I wasn't really planning on growing my hair. I stopped the blow dryer when I decided, but the bottom six inches are definitely crispier than the top twenty.
Yeah my hairs generally a tangled mess if I dont condition. I tried it without as well and it was a pain.
