I was beginning to wonder about these University of Delaware kids. Even the girls are short-haired (pixie-cuts are the rage right now). I'd seen quite a few longhairs at Mount St Mary's University, in my former town, including a few Franciscan seminarians. I'm surrounded by student housing, a big frat house is right across the street. I see students every day, walking, biking, or skateboarding to classes. But I finally caught sight of a student with long hair, a guy with mid-back length light brown hair waiting to cross at an intersection. Hopefully, I'll see more. All of this short hair is practically depressing, I saw more guys with long hair at the Catholic university where I previously lived, then at this public state university where I reside now. C'mon young guys, GROW YOUR HAIR!
I went to UD for one semester six years ago in one of a few attempts to go back to college. I felt like I was in a walking Abercrombie & Fitch ad, totally out of place and feeling surrounded by the most artificial people I've ever encountered. Currently I live in Wilmington, and I never see a soul when I'm in Delaware with long hair. I half expected the guy you saw to be me, but I haven't been to Newark in about a month.
That's a good descriptor! They had Greek Week at the frat house recently, it _did_ look like a walking Abercrombie & Fitch ad on Main St. Western Maryland did have quite a few longhairs outside of the Mount, was always catching guys at the area stores. Delaware? Meh! Not so much it seems so far, only been here a little over 6 months. Bleh! :(
You must stand out in Wilmington, the lone longhair.
Oh I barely spend any time in Wilmington at all, I work in Delaware County and Philadelphia, I pretty much just sleep here. I definitely don't stand out in the city in any way!
I teach at a mid-Atlantic state public university and there is a spectrum of hair lengths here. Guys have buzz cuts to long hair, not so much A&F look. The girls are not pixie but are growing out bobs into long hair. My son is a student here and has short hair, min is an inch or two below chin length.
At Christmas vacation my wife's sister's mother commented that I should work for Abercrombie and Fitch! LOL!
Yesterday a female colleague characterized me as having a "metro" look. I had to Google that term. Maybe A&F has metro models? Dunno.
I'm not entirely sure where I'll be going to college at yet (as I'm still in the process of considering my options), but if you ever see me on the East Coast, I'll definitely be sporting long hair! Been waiting all through high school to get the opportunity. :D

Aaack!! I saw a pixie cut on the way home! They're here! Not good on a guy, much less a girl! Only possible worse trend was that curly perm thing of the 80's
So I just googled "Pixie haircut". I guess it looks nifty from a cartoon perspective, but I interpret it as the head got in a fight with a pair of hedge clippers. I can understand a short and even bob. but the lack of symmetry in this pixie thing is scary.
LOL! That's an excellent descriptor. It is ugly, IMHO, but it seems to be the latest celebrity fad for some crazy reason. Now I will be picturing hedge clippers every time I see pics of Emma Watson, Cary Mulgrew, etc spotting that hideous short cut that everybody gushes as "so cute!" Bleh! Gag me with a spoon!
