to those of you who have been doing this for a long time, how do you decide what length to keep your hair? how do you reconcile maintaining quality with wanting to have a 'natural' (ie, not having the appearance of having been cut and styled with scissors) look?
personally, although i do want my hair to be healthy, i don't want it to look perfect or too carefully groomed: i go for a more natural look. the problem then becomes that my hair gets too long for its own good and no longer looks its best.
how do you all compromise between maintaining quality through cutting and achieving a look that isn't too carefully manicured?
photo included was taken yesterday and was what finally convinced me that i needed to chop off about 6 inches (which i've already done) if i didn't want it to just be thin and ratty.
Hi Gudmundur,
Long time no see and hope all is well you mate :-)
I think it's a personal thing and what your happy with and how it looks. We all have different hair types and some of us have more splits than others.
I'm sure you will come to the right decision.
Cheers,

weird, i'm surprised to be recognized...
anyway, i just got my first good look at it in a pair of mirrors and i'm really displeased with the cut-straight-across appearance. maybe in a couple of months it will grow out to be more organic looking and getting rid of the thin ends (the weird thing is that the full length was actually pretty healthy--it just got thinner at the ends--which is why i was reluctant to cut it for so long) will have been worth it.
Oh to have that kind of problem! looks fantastic as it is.
Ian
Each to his own, I prefer the natural look myself.
