Greetings long hairs. Back in October I chopped my shoulder length curly locks off. Since then I've been keeping my head shaved 3/8th of an inch... every time I see a long haired guy though I miss mine. And lately my girlfriend (who didn't like my long hair) is missing the the man-mane, so I've decided to grow it out again. I've had long hair off and on, but I've never grown it out from being shaved. Just wondering if I should just let it all grow (which is my gut instinct), of I should trim the back or whatnot to make it grow out evenly. Wish me luck... gonna be a long haul, I know!
i say just grow it out, and decide if you wanna even it out once its long...i too have curly hair and i think you nobody will even notice if its even or not cause of the curls...good luck on the journey
I'm growing mine out from a shave and scissors have not met my hair in 2 1/2 years. I can definitely say its not for everyone. For me it seemed to compliment me (at least in my eyes) so I left it a natural grow. For some people though I have heard of problems of uneven hair growth where trimming is required just to maintain symmetry. I also have heard that you tend to end up with a lot of split ends if you do it from a buzz or a shave. I however never really experienced any large amount of split ends, or those that did occur were probably at the end of their growth cycle anyways and fell out before it hit 5".
Here is a photobucket with my progress so you can get an idea what it looks like.
Glad to see another longhair return to the fold! May your growth be a glorious process. It well suits you! : )

Is your GF CRAZY??????? :O She didn't like your long mane, but she now misses it. :/ You will have to go through the dreaded awkward stage again, and it gets tempting to trim in an effort to "even things out". Your best bet is to avoid scissors and razors and any cutting implements, even though you are sorely tempted. Hair has a way of evening itself out on it's own. Trimming just thwarts the process, and makes the awkward stage longer. The only thing you can and should do, is have a "dusting" done to remove split ends, and that should be a half-inch or less.
Looking at your pic, with your hair pulled-back, and imagining you shaved, I say ditch the shaving. You look good with your hair long, let it grow and let it flow. Ahhhhhg! Why do guys cut their hair for wishy-washy girls? You say you miss it, seems you were meant to be a longhair. But you might be one of those that need to drag themselves kicking and screaming through the process to achieve it. That's what this board is for, to help you get through the journey, and resists temptations to grab the shears. And to give you a few virtual kicks to keep you on the path. (Virtual swift kick headed your way for chopping off that gorgeous hair). ;)
Hahaha. Thank you! I appreciate your compliments and encouragement. I'll keep the shavers locked away! And I told her too bad if she doesn't like it again! Here's a pic of it flowing... can't wait!
Well, with hair like that you don't need luck, just determination not to have it cut again.
Best wishes Ian
Thanks!
btw, I'm also an Ian B. :)
Great pic; you can tell your GF, I say she's crazy not to love that! In a few years, you'll be back to your former glory. Being curly, the awkward stage may not be quite so bad. Remember the unofficial MLHH motto, "No Trims!"
Thats a great picture PhunkeyPhish, loads of colour. I say let it grow naturally and don't trim, it will even out eventually - long hair rules!!
cheers Dave
LET IT ALL GROWWWWW!!!!! YESSS!
LOVE the picture here with the bun! Hehe! Excellent! You look like an awesome guy. ;p
