Hey there guys I have perused this forum before and have enjoyed seeing people growing out their hair. I have been doing so for I would say 8 months now and am loving it. Growing it out has been difficult due to work, not because they hassle me to cut it, but because I work in the food industry. I have to keep it crammed under a hate all day, and because it is too short for one ponytail I have to do three in order to keep it under the hate lol. This picture is about 6 months, and now it is about 2 inches longer and the back part of my hair touches the base of my neck. I had a question about hair ties/wraps and what is the healthiest amount of time to keep one in for? I am asking this because when I do get my hair to the desired length, which will be mid-chest level, I would like to do a small hair wrap. With this hair wrap I will use it as a hair tie in a sense. Well that is all I have to say as of now, I will keep you guys posted, and take a more recent photo soon.
Happy growing,
Ziggy

Ziggy,
Welcome to the Board ! Your hair is coming in nicely and is looking healthy. I too had problems, as everyone does in the akward phase, with tieing it back and using gels to keep it in place. I was in construction management, so a manager in a macho industry with longhair doesnt always jive.
Your ? about hair ties. There really is no set time that is good for your hair to be " restrained ". Especially if it is tight to the head. All the stress of the tie puts on the hair shafts and the roots is not healthy for your hair. The only real good advice is to let your hair be loose, but I can image especially in the food industry this would be impossible.
Until your hair is mid neck and bangs past your chin, you will have to " stress " your hair out, unfortunatly. After it gets a little longer you can tie it back farther from head and in turn causing less stress to your hair, eventually a hair wrap/tie can be used to keep it neat and profesional.
Hope this helps and good luck on your hair growing journey.
Peace

I was looking at this girl and thought, "wow her hair is amazing." I saw her hair wrap she had and thought that would be cool, and seeing how long it is she could just wrap it around her own hair and create a loose ponytail. Plus I love doing things that are artsy, I might just try this with my own hair and figure it out myself. I love her style too, the perfect image of a carefree spirit.
I'll get my friends to take a pic of my hair as it is now and maybe by then I'll have an example of my own hair wrap.

I love her look too! Thanks for posting the photo.
Looks like a skinny braid, emanating from the nape of her neck? Definitely could use that to fasten her hair in a tale, it would be easy to loop that around the base, Might be long enough for her to form a crown around her face too. Lot's of possibilities there. Most hair wraps are done using a plain strand of hair that is sufficiently long enough to loop around the base of a ponytail. Regular or rope braid would give a decorative touch. Looking forward to see pics of what you do.
Having worked in the food industry for many years; I've worked around numerous longhairs, mostly in health care, where hairnets were required. And actually, hairnets are the the safest hair restraint. If you tie, make sure the ties are fabric or covered elastic, and have no metal clips. When not at work, let your hair flow unrestrained. Also, make sure your tail has a little slack, don't pull the hair too tight against the scalp. To use your own hair to wrap around the base of the tail, you do need a fairly long section, because you have to loop it through. So, it may be some time before your hair is long enough to make the loop. Avoid rubber bands, the clear silicone ones are okay though, but fabric (like the chenille ties( are the best. You are off the a great start, just stay away from the dreaded scissors.
Great advice from Carol, good luck in your growing journey HH :)
