Around a week ago I mentioned that I was going to try using Cassia in my hair instead of Henna.I wasn't sure I wanted my hair to be reddish so that's why I chose Cassia.LOL.
First of all if you are going to try this be prepared to dedicate almost an entire day to complete the process.Since I was on vacation this week and being it has rained everyday it was a good time to do the treatment. So the night before I had to mix up the Cassia powder with apple juice. They suggested lemon juice or orange juice but apple was ok and that's what I had around. The mixture was supposed to sit for 12 hours before being applied. The next morning I first washed my hair with a special hair wash I bought from the same people due to the fact that my water is hard. Hard water could ruin the results of Cassia so that is why I used it.It too is a powder and had to be mixed with distilled water.I need to mention that I would always brush my hair out to assure its not tangled during the process. After washing and air drying my hair it was time to put in the Cassia. The mixture basically looks like mud and I admit being concerned putting this slop in my hair figuring I would never wash it all out but thankfully it washed out fairly easily:)After you put in the slop you wrap your head in shrink wrap and in my case I put on a plastic shower cap.Now is the big wait and see for the next 4 hours.Once removing the cap and wrap I washed the Cassia out and let my hair air dry again. Finally I combed and boar bristle brushed my hair out and have to report my hair felt very silky and looked great.I'm including a couple pictures of the immediate results for you all to see for yourself.Reflecting back I'm glad to have given the Cassia a try and recommend it to anyone else whole doesn't mind dealing with the process.I'm sure I'll do it again in the future and maybe even alter the mixture for fun:)Anyway that is my story but sorry for the long post.Good day all:)

Hi Mark,
Your hair really does look excellent after this treatment, and thank you for explaining exactly how you did it.
Ironically, about a year ago, I had considered a similar treament for my hair, and even made a post in my blog on another site asking some questions. I liked the thought that my hair might be stronger after the treatment, and I might be able to gain more length as a consequence. My only concern was any effect on the colour of my hair, and I really didn't want that to change. I have some "natural silver" in my hair, and I really don't want that to go. For that reason, I still haven't taken the plunge to try it.
Take care,
David
Hi David,
If color change is your major concern then I'd say you have nothing to worry about with Cassia. What I was told and read regarding any color change is that its based on what type of juice you mix in with the Cassia.I played it safe with apple juice but had I used lemon juice it would have colored the silvers being it is more acidic than apple juice.Even orange juice could have altered the color some.Personally if my silvers had gotten blonder I wouldn't complain. The next time I'm thinking of using the lemon juice. The other alternative is blending some Henna in with the Cassia but to me you won't know the results until after the deed is done.So David, be adventurous and try Cassia just for its conditioning benefits.I know I would do it again.

Sorry to dissappoint, but i don't really see any difference. At least it doesn't look worse than before! (Doesn't mean that it looked bad then, not at all). I hope it did you hair good.
I might try the henna thing myself sometime. Not only for the potential hair-strenghtening quality, but I also LOVE red hair (not sure if it fits me, though). A female friend of mine uses it regularly and her hair is fantastic!
Hi Abstrakt,
First of all both pictures are "after" shots so they will appear similar.I just wanted to show my hair from the front and back.I didn't expect any major color change otherwise I would have used Henna.Like you I'm not sure red hair would look right on me.I could do a blend with some Henna which I assume would put in a subtle hint of redness.Unfortunately I'd have to do it first and cross my fingers that it wouldn't look weird.
Mark
Yeah, i know that they're both after-photos, but to me it looks much like earlier photos. Whatever... Our hair is very similar, but i won't grow mine as long as yours.
I will probably do a henna treatment sometime this summer. Havn't done anything with my hair for 18 months now, and if it doesn't harm my hair, then why not? I've heard that it's really good for hair, conditions it and makes the scalp happy. Plus, i love red hair. Like billy corgan in this photo:
Oh be brave and grow your hair to the floor!LOL.Then you can do the Henna treatment as wouldn't that look awesome:)Seriously if you like the idea of red hair than by all means do the Henna.I might have considered it but I was afraid it would be too red.I was told blending Henna with Cassia could tone down the redness some.Anyway if you do the Henna please do post a pic of the result my friend.Cheers
Mark
Of course i would post the results! Unless the henna killed me or something, lol. I have 5 days off in early june, so that might be a suitable time to do it. I need to spice things up a bit.
Looking good Mark! Is the first pic a before pic or are they both after treatment?
Just curious, would you say your hair is dry or does it seem pretty well moisturized? I read on LHC that cassia treatments can make dry hair even more dry, some recommend doing a deep moisturizing treatment first.

Hi Paladin,
Yes, both pics are "after" just to show different views after the treatment. What I was told was that Cassia is more geared towards conditioning the hair than coloring it.My hair does get dry after I shampoo it so for awhile I was using coconut oil to counteract the drying effects of the shampoo.Unfortunately too much oil weighs down your hair making it less full looking.I liked the silkiness of the oiled hair but wasn't crazy about how flat it looked. That's why I decided to try the Cassia.I'll likely do a followup this summer and might tweak the formula.
Mark
It's a nuisance to do, but it does make your hair more manageable. Once you've gotten all the powdered lawn clippings rinsed out of it. I find the color change to be insignificant, but it probably depends on how much gray you've got to start with.
Color change wasn't my main objective in doing this process.I like my hair to feel silky as I run my fingers through it and coconut oil provided that. However I want my hair to look full too especially being so fine.So doing this was sort of a test which I feel was worth doing.

From what I see, your hair looks good Mark. That treatment looks like it worked well.
Scott
Hey Scott,
I'm pleased with how my hair turned out but need to weigh the benefits with the time and effort involved in applying it.I can't even imagine you doing it with your major hair length.Gosh, you might have to wear a neck brace due to the weight of all that mud!LOL.Seriously I'm glad I tried it as it wasn't all that bad to do.
Mark
Too bad it doesn't come in a spray. LOL
Scott
Well I think there are mud pumps so that would work;)

I think I will just stick with the coconut oil. Gosh that stuff is useful. It is also good for cutting fine threads on small bronze rod too.
Scott
Hi Mark,
It sounds like the application process is very similar to the ordeal in applying henna. That's the main reason I've never tried it.
It certainly looks like it has conditioned your hair well and it's obvious in the photos that it is tangle free.
I have just started using coconut oil and I have to say I love it!! It doesn't leave my hair crunchy like jojoba oil does and even if I use quite a bit, I don't find an oil residue. It has done wonders for my tangle problems and increased the luster of my hair. In fact, it has made me rethink the need to trim much and given me hope of growing to greater lengths!
Hi Jason,
I agree as applying Cassia would be identical to doing Henna.I do like how my hair feels even days after the treatment though its a bit flatter now since it hasn't been washed since then. The next time I try the Cassia I think I'll mix it with lemon juice instead of the apple juice that I used this time.I was told lemon juice would make the gray hair look more blonde again.Well I don't have that many grays but I would like it all blonde again if possible. As for the coconut oil I still feel its a good option and its very possible I'll just return to that eventually.Certainly its a lot faster to apply:)I just felt it was worth trying this treatment at least once or twice.

Hey Markie-babes, great results with the hair treatment. Like you say the colour is not too bright or red, it looks very natural and takes years off you my friend :)))
Your mane is looking awesome anyway, this has just added that finishing touch, its a treat to see an update from you as they are truly rare, but like all rare things the wait is worth it ;)
Have a great weekend buddy,
Dave
Hey Davie, hope all is well with you my friend.Yes, I do admit updates from me are rare being my hair really doesn't change all that much anymore. It looks like this is as long as it will ever get which is fine as long as its still all there;)The treatment was more for conditioning purposes than for color.Had I tried the Henna my hair would certainly have changed color depending on if I blended it with the Cassia or used it 100%.Maybe someday I would take that plunge.I'm not one for caring what the outside world thinks of my appearance as long as I'm happy with it.Anyway thanks for your input as I do appreciate it buddy:)Cheers
Mark
Looks great Mark! Quite a process to go through - interesting.
Be sure to post an update later when the little yellow Cassia flowers start blooming!
- Oren
Oren, now you got me going thinking these little flowers are going to be popping up from my hair!LOL.I guess anything to help the thickness I suppose:)Oh the process was interesting as it was new territory for me.There is nothing like the feeling of putting wet mud in your hair.It sure looked great when I had it all in but darn I forgot to take a picture of that stage.I probably looked like a mud wrestler!LOL.So attached is a pic of what I should expect to see soon sprouting from my head:)
Mark
Hey! I bought the henna yesterday, and now i'm only waiting for a time to do it on. I'm exited! :) I've read that it may also be good against dandruff, so then it's win-win for me :)
Very cool Abstrakt!I'll look forward to seeing the results on your hair being its similar to mine.Maybe I'll like it so much that I might do Henna on my next treatment. Thanks for the update and good luck with the Henna my friend.Have an awesome weekend:)Cheers
Mark
Thanks alot! It's not impossible that i'll post an update here tomorrow already, as i'll probably use the henna in the morning.

That's very cool Abstrakt as I want to see your results:)Be sure to tell me how you enjoyed the process;)
