Hey all,
Just snapped this pic showing how I've developed the devil horns and neck fringe associated with hair getting long... do I officially qualify as a man who's entered the Awkward Stage of mane growth? :D
Yes. Give up all hope.
Haha, "Abandon hope all ye who enter here!"
I like it!
If that's the worst of your awkward phase, consider yourself lucky. My thick, wavy/curly hair was a nightmare going through the awkward stage. Just press on through it and you'll be rewarded!
Oh I'm just getting started... I'm sure it will get much much worse since this is only 4.5 months of growth from a #1 buzz...
But to me it's a badge of honor. I'm EXCITED about entering the awkward stage, believe it or not!
You're right, I was excited too. It's a first step toward your goal, so it's definitely worth having excitement over.
For everyone who is going through the awkward stage, i would recomend from my own experience that you find someone who can french braid your hair as that is the best way to tie up loose ends that arent long enough to tie all together. Also, i loved the feel of french braids, so I continue to use them . Wayne
Hi
I almost think some of this Awkward Stage stuff is locked in the minds of men and what THEY believe to be Awkward. Some want all perfect every minute, and some like it wild.
That being said, "if" in your mind you think you are, then you are. "If" you are wondering, probably it is not really bothering you a whole lot.
Ha Ha ha..........can you believe this excentric weird "elder" at 62 growing back his hair from the grave? (Just took the pic.) I LOVE all of the fun looks that come with what is termed "Awkward." It will be "finished" in the various lengths I desire by early Fall.
Best thing to do is enjoy them one-of-a-kind looks that lead to beautiful full long hair along the way. All the best with growing out your hair. It WILL look fabulous! :-)
Justin~
ps: You have very good hair to work with.
You have a unique opportunity to go through the stages of Duran Duran, Thompson Twins and Flock of Seagulls on your return to long hair.
Justin I love the look you have in this pic. Not just your hair. but your facial expression. A manic mischievous look that says. "You do of course realize, this means war" makes me want you on my side in a serious confrontation.
Thanks Justin!
That picture is awesome. You've got the same wild look on your face that I'm sure to have as I hit each milestone of growth... haha.
Yes you have.
You now need to be patient for 3/6 months as it grows through that. There is no easy way other than to think about the goal that you will achieve and the great pleasure that will ensue.
Sweet... I'm already hearing the comments at work "Wow, your hair is getting long and growing fast!" And of course the comments from one of the short-haired female supervisors in another department, "Don't grow your hair long again... just DON'T!" Hahaha. :D
I got a LOT of the "do not grow your hair back" comments while I wasin the akward phase too. Even while I was just talking about growing it back and was just starting people kept trying to convince me to stay as a shorthair. I just kept ignoring these comments for the most part.
The result of ignoring all these comments is currently shoulderblade length hair that is now the envy of a few women at my workplace!

Haha nice... yeah call me crazy but the hazing you get from people are half the fun for me. :P
That supervisor chick just gave me my first "Get a haircut!" comment... to which I replied "Death first!!" I'm definitely back in the club now!
I was just thinking -- It's kinda funny, but the Awkward Stage reflects not only the awkwardness of how your hair lies and fights against your attempts to tame it, but also how people treat you during this phase of hair growth.
From what I've read on here and seen elsewhere, it seems like it's during the Awkward Stage where most of the negative comments and pressure to cut it come. You grow it longer and longer, and you get more and more flak from those who you interact with on a regular basis, but it seems that once you get it long enough to get into a tail (the traditional milestone to mark the end of the Awkward Stage), people all but stop pressuring you to cut it because that's when they see you're sticking with it.
So the term "Awkward Stage" has a double meaning of sorts! Pretty neat, huh?
That's a very amusingly accurate point! :)
Paladin,
Yes, the wings are forming. Just fly with it!
peace, jonalbear
Haha, off I go!
Hey Paladin,
Wings definitely symbolize that you're off to a good start, with even more awkward "fun" to follow (LOL)....
For me, though, the real "awkward" part of the awkward stages didn't start until my hair kept falling in my eyes -- as well as tickling into my ears, eventually falling into my mouth or my soup or both, and on & on & on... until I could FINALLY tie it all back into a hair-tie.
But you've been through this awkward ordeal before, right? As I recall, this is your 2nd time of growing it out -- so, from my way of thinking, you're already an "old pro" at this hair-farming stuff.
In any case... Keep up the good "work!"
Onward & downward!
