Longtime members will probably remember that I kept a hair progress site for many years. It detailed my forays into longish hair before exiting the Watchtower and then, more importantly, my successful journey since January 2004, the date of my last short hair cut.
I began to lose interest in keeping it up as my hair length stalled and the host website began charging too much. I closed it down over a year ago.
Recently I've taken renewed interest in trying for longer length and healthier ends. My goal is to try to recapture the healthier appearance my hair had in previous years while also going for new length. I have just started to use coconut oil and the results so far have been pretty positive. It will be a challenge but I thought it might be interesting to blog about this process. Recently I created one which will be primarily about hair but will also cover other subjects from time to time.
I have completed a few entries so far which deal with documenting my journey since that 2004 cut up until the present with an overview of each year since then. I have currently completed through 2007. This synopsis may be of interest for new growers to see the various stages along the way.
I have added a link in the Links section and also will link to it in this post.
Ramblings of an Iconoclast blog
Hi Jason
It is good to see some of these pictures back and to see a reminder of your travails from the early 2000s coupled with your decision to break free.
They are an interesting ob ject lesson to all those contemplating long hair or having doubts.
Thanks for putting them back.
Duncan
Hi Duncan,
Thanks, I enjoyed the process of putting some of my hair history back up. It was good to see the milestones on the journey and to remember where I came from.
It should be interesting too to see what the future holds and what can be attained.
Jason
Jason, the site looks really good, looks like your doing a littlebirdlonghair.com kinda of a deal. love the photos im shooting for about a 36 months of uninterrupted growth. then possibly even a little trim to even it up. im using cold pressed coconut oil once a week myself, its a miracle product.your hair on the site is in excellent condition, good luck dude. James/ Tampa,Fl ps im at 25 months tail just below the shoulder blades.
Thanks James. Yeah, coconut oil is great and I'm looking forward to seeing the longterm results from using it. You should post an update of your hair!
OK ill try and take some photos this weekend, it really strengthens your hair, but sometimes you may need to shampoo twice to get it out.take care James/Tampa,Fl
Awesome job! I'm going to bookmark this page and use it for inspiration. I plan on going back and reading it more closely, as I just skimmed it while looking at the great pics. I really appreciate you sharing this. I put together a picture history of my beard as I worked towards my goal. I can't believe that next week it will be 4 years since my last shave. Now I hope to achieve the same with my hair.
Thanks again. Looking forward to more updates.
Brian
Thanks a lot Brian! Sharing growing experiences can definitely be motivating for all involved. I remember being inspired by others who were farther along than me when I was growing my hair out.
You'll have an incredible look with four years growth especially with your beard to match!
I've missed the old site. Thanks for bringing this back... you have a tremendous ability to help inspire men to make a similar journey.

Hey Val,
Thanks for the kind words. I kind of miss the process of having a site to update. I'm looking forward to tracking things again and to sharing my perspectives on other things too.
If my words and photos can serve as any kind of inspiration that is very gratifying to me.
Jason
Hi Jason,
That's cool you will be putting back online a little bit of your hair history:)Too bad there was no internet when I was experimenting with my longhair journey to share with guys like you were able to.I honestly don't know how my hair survived all those years with virtually no support at all.So that being said I'll say my support came from within as I just loved my hair being long.I have so many pictures I have found that currently are not digitalized with my hair at different lengths over my younger years.I have made digital a few of those pictures and did posted them here some years ago.It is fun looking back at old photos of myself being less fossilized too.He he:)Anyway thanks for bringing back your old pics.Cheers my friend.
Mark
Hi Mark,
I've really enjoyed the times you've posted pictures showing some of your hair history. You've been a longhair for many years now and it would be very interesting to see a timeline! Dude, you should totally do a post about that sometime!
Jason
Hi Jason
Thanks for this. I enjoyed looking at your pics and your long hair progress from really to short to really long amazing hair. I am now 2 months from the really short stage and find your site very inspirational. I plan to grow my hair as long as possible, but like you want to grow it all to one length so a few cuts are necessary to achieve this. I took advantage of my short hair to have a very minor operation on the back of my head / neck this week after putting it off for about 2 or 3 years. It was a total success and I feel amazing Plus it didn't affect my hair at all. I was very explicit that it should have minimal impact on my hair. I have 5 or 6 staples in the back of my head which do not cut off the blood supply to the hair roots , unlike stitches which strangle the blood supply with their noose like action. Anyway I am on my way now and really look forward to the journey of growing it as long as possible. Your site and all the stories on this site are a fantastic source of inspiration on this journey. I feel that I should add that it's also really great to see that the older guys with really long hair, or growing their hair, have such amazing hair. Very inspirational!
Lance
Hi Lance,
Thank you! It's very cool that the pictures can serve as some inspiration. Seeing others' pictures always motivated me as well.
I'm glad your operation went well and that it won't impede your hair growth in any way.
Enjoy the journey to long hair!
Jason
Awesome you've got a new blog!
I always loved your old site, and it gave me a lot of inspiration and help to grow my hair.
Thanks Vincent! I'm really liking the blog format. I needed something different than just a place to post photos. I like how I can place the photos easily within the text.
Hi Jason,
That is wonderful news that you are bringing back your site! Way back in late 2006, when I first joined the hyperboard, I remember how it inspired me, and definitely many other folks as well. Also, I hope your new treatment regime helps you to achieve your goals.
Take care,
David
Hi David,
Thanks! I'm glad the previous site was of some inspiration to you and hopefully this new one can serve a similar purpose.
So far, so good on the coconut oil. I like it much better than jojoba oil.
Best,
Jason
Hi Jason, Great! a facinating insite and certainly an inspiration to us all on a similar journey. Keep us posted, you hair is looking fantasic.
Best wishes, Ian
Hi Ian,
Thanks a lot! It should be interesting to see what the coming months bring as far as progress. I've certainly appreciated your inspiring photos too!
Jason
Hi Jason,
I'm very happy to see that you have brought back your old website in a new reincarnated version.
In July 2008 in my early stages of growing out hair, I discovered Bill Choisser's great website with classic article "On Being a Longhair" and along with both your website and Joao's found it really helped me along on my hair journey. In particular I really liked the photo sequences where you showed a column of hair differences over the years. Sometimes a collection of progress photos says it better then words can. Like the old saying a picture is worth a thousand words.
I also enjoyed answering your hair polls on the old website and some of the multiple choice answers on offer were funny!
Your website and the others mentioned greatly sustained me on days when I was tempted to give up in the midst of the awkward hair phrase.
I do look forward to your progress with your new hair treatment regime. In my humble opinion the length that you currently sprout is quite presentable and length-wise is already fantastic. I personally had a goal of mid-back length initially when i started growing which has now been attained and have philosophically accepted that any length beyond that point that I achieve is just a bonus!
Again thanks for reviving your old website - the newbies will much appreciate it along with the veteran longhairs no doubt!
Best wishes,
Duncan
Hi Duncan,
I really appreciate your supportive words and your relating about your times visiting my old site. I did like that chart a lot showing the various years with side and back poses all put together. I don't know if I'll be able to recreate that in quite the same way but the blog at least will show the year to year changes in sequential posts.
Haha, yes, I remember having some fun with those polls!
Thanks about my hair too. I am pleased with my current length but I guess I'm still hoping for more or at least improved health of the length I'm able to manage.
Best,
Jason
