Some guys with baggy pants and buzzcuts were saying stupid crap like "look at the fro on that dude!"
people around here are so ignorant and think everyone should dress alike and wear their hair the same way.
men with long hair are often given dirty looks are receive stupid comments
awhile back a couple of homeboys yelled out
"excuse me Miss" just to piss me off even though I don't look like a woman.
what areas of the U.S. would you all highly recommended to relocate to?
I'm already sick of the high humidity and heat and add the stupidity factor of the average Floridian and that makes it ten times worse!!
Seattle!!
Why did you move here if you hate it so much? remember what goes around comes around. I find some of the things you stated in this post to be convoluted. If you respect your self and the others around you, including strangers your karma will be ok. i dont mean to offend. its just an observation. James/Tampa,Fl
If you really enjoy attention you could move up to Appalachia, they would really love you up there!!!!
i live in cali and its good, some guy asked the same question not too long ago.... i must warn you tho, there are lot of people who wear baggy clothes around here, including me, i personally dont like skinny jeans. but forreal there will be dicks anywhere you move too, my advice is just ignore them unless they confront you face to face then you have to handle your business
Good Lord....just calm down and head for the Keys, man. Islamorada, Marathon, or certainly Key West. Very, very liberal there, and you will probably look like a skinhead Marine compared to some of the natives. Sunshine State Rules!
I have to admit I've only once visited Florida and that had to be around 20 years ago.I visited the Miami area for a week and can't recall ever having comments made about my hair.Honestly I don't remember how long my hair was at that time but it was shorter than I currently wear it but still long.I live in NJ and as much as I despise this state it does seem to tolerate my hair:)So maybe you might want to give joisey a try if you dare!LOL.I want to move to California but work out there in my field isn't that good I've been hearing. So for the moment I'm stuck in joisey....you know the FU state:)Cheers
Mark
And I was under the impression that most guys had hair like that Mike "The situation" guy on the 'jersey shore'. lol
No, sorry I don't watch but I know what it is and would not waste my time on mindless garbage.
LongHairFan -- while some areas are generally more accepting of long hair on men than others, as a man with long hair you will still be in the minority anywhere you go as short hair is just "what's in" at this period in time. You're not likely to find a place where you won't be surrounded by crew cuts so sticking out is just something you'll have to get used to. The best you can hope for is a place where the short-hairs don't harass you about it very often. Some people and populations are more open-minded than others, regardless of their own personal hair lengths.
I guess what I'm saying is, don't expect to find a place where you'll just be surrounded by long haired guys and can blend in with the crowd (maybe if you're lucky you'll live on a street or in a neighborhood that is majority longhair, but never an entire city, town, or county). Not likely to happen. California, Florida, Washington, New York, Arizona, Tennessee, whatever. Some parts of the country will be more or less accepting of your hair, and that's something to look for, but all of these places will still be populated mostly by short-haired men, just the way it is right now.
True enough, wherever you are, most of the men will have short(er) hair, but it doesn't have to be as bad as being surrounded by crewcuts! *diversion...just walked down to the corner store* While it is early in the day for long hairs to be out, did see some shoulder length, a mid-back, and a couple of long beards, as well as shaved bald (and only a couple crew cuts)...on a mix of ages and cultural types. FWIW most of the women were between shoulder and waist, with a few pixies and hip length around.
The thing is, diversity of hair lengths is present, so non-crewcut is simply not something to note. Noone is going to give a damn about longish hair when everything from polished shaved bald to past waist is in eyeshot!
Note: I am in San Francisco, but not one of the most relaxed neighborhoods.
Yea, I don't watch that show either and to top it off I don't even know what the characters look like that are on it.I've heard what its about and could care less to see the show. Now I did enjoy watching "The Sopranos" when that was on HBO but no longhairs on that show for the guys!LOL.If you had longhair as a guy you may not have lived to talk about it:( Yikes!!!!

...Furio Giunta, the Neapolitan Camorra enforcer who came to work for Tony. Anybody who made fun of his hair didn't live to tell about it.
Is this the guys that Tony's wife had a crush on during the series?
James/Tampa,Fl
Yeah, they were both attracted to each other. If I remember correctly, this is actually why Furio decided to leave Tony's crew.
Here's a cool scene of Furio when he was in a good mood...

Hey Val ,
Now how could I have forgotten about him as he had the most gorgeous hair a man could sport:) These Italian guys are blessed with great hair genes.Unfortunately for Tony his best hair days were far behind him. Thanks for picking up on Furio as I'm so ashamed to have forgotten about him when I mentioned "The Sopranos".Have a great weekend my friend. Cheers
Mark
Hey Mark,
One-fourth of my own blood being Italian, I thank you for the compliment on my peoples' hairy genetics. I could do with a bit less on the knuckles, however :)
Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend, too!
--Val
Val, im the opposite im of Scandinavian decent and can bare grow a decent beard, the knuckles thing was funny. LOL
I'm also of Scandinavian descent, my paternal grandmother having been 100% Swedish (married to my 100% Italian grandfather). On my mother's side, I'm of English and Scotch-Irish descent (the latter also being of partially-Danish viking extraction). Long story short, I'm just another American mutt, but it worked out well for me as far as my hair (cranial and facial) is concerned!
--Val
Im a mutt also, and i just dealing with what i got from my DNA, have a good long weekend. remember our dead and wounded warriors and all that have served from valley forge till today.James/Tampa,Fl
Washington DC has a law against hair style discrimination, although it's a bit of a problem finding a place to live in DC that is both affordable and safe. I commute in to DC from Maryland, which is a relatively liberal state. A lot of people also commute in from Virginia, although they are more conservative over that side, so probably not as long hair friendly.
There also very rich over there! James/Tampa,Fl
Virginia and California are both expensive states to live in.
I can understand your frustration-I used to live in Fla and would never go back there-The place is a swamp to me...I live in NYC area and it's fairly liberal with all the many artist but at the same time very expensive too...I here that Portland is a cool place to live and very cheap also...Good-luck on your relocation
Some guys with baggy pants and buzzcuts were saying stupid crap like "look at the fro on that dude!"
Sorry to hear that, Broham. People can be so ignorant sometimes. I recommend somewhere here, up north. It's quite cool and people don't jump on you for hair all that much; I get a few petty insults here and there, but no all-out attacks. You might really like it!
i stay in miami and lots of dudes down here have dreads, i mean alot! i guess that island culture moved its way up here. thats part of the reason im growing my hair out, to get dreads i think. ive never grown my hair much longer than a big fro before and the worst comments i can remember about it came from my mom i think. yea mom thanks for the frizzy hair! keep growin if u want its all good. im lovin this florida weather right now although all this hair on my neck makes me sweaty but its still beautiful.
