Hi everyone. I used to be a happy longhair. Pictured is me at 18yo (and how I would like my hair to look now). Also pictured is me today, two weeks out from a shaved head at 23yo. I am determined to grow out my hair again, yet as you can see I have a receding hairline and thin hair to boot.
Does anyone have shampoo or maintenance tips for the ill-fortuned? I would love to go through this process with as little hair lost as possible, and hopefully grow some new hair along the way as well.
Also, if any of you have tried to grow your locks from where I am currently and would advise against it for any reason (looks worse than it is worth, etc.) I'm all for hearing those opinions too.
Thanks for reading :)
There was a guy by the username of "Paladin" that posted a thread not too long ago. He cut off his hair due to thinning but started growing it again and is using some kind of regimen of products to make it thicker, apparently having great success with it too. You might try scrolling down and seeing if you can find it. Another way would be just to press CTRL+F (to open search bar), type in Paladin and see if you can find his thread.
Thanks for the tip. I'll look through the forum and review the thread you refer to.
Yes, check out Paladin's regimen as he used natural products with great success. Me personally, I SWEAR by propecia and rogain. I have not experienced ANY side effects from either product, but it has miraculously helped to regrow my thinning hair both in the front and in the crown area.
Hello Fanya: I am 24yo from Miami. I havent cut my hair since jan 09 and boy, I dont think Ill cut it in the near future... You say you need encouragement, but beleive me, If you have come as far as deciding it true to heart, you have all the encouragement from yourself and this whole board. As you grow, you will hear the same things you once heard, and some new... the same things we all heard. the same discouragement from short haired men, and some unlucky women... but once you get there, ha! your life changes. You go from an unnoticeable dude, inmersed in a sea of shortairs to the spotlight. Everyone will notice your awesome hair and you will stand up. I trully beleive its a blessing to decide to grow it.keep it sharp, keep it clean, keep it growing. when you walk the street and see other people with long hair, you will feel like you belong. a sense of brotherhood arises between longhairs and you will be making new friends amongst this hairy people like yourself.. I know I do. I have only had one trim in all these years, a 2 inch cut 6 months ago. It was a lot, but it made my head much healthier. other than that, I use fructis shampoo and conditioner and sometimes a leave in conditioner.. sometimes I touch it up with the iron to straighten the curls a bit and see it longer, I have thick wavy hair and it looses some length with the curls. I dont do anything fancy with it and its super healthy. receding hairline? who cares... it probably will look better than short styles.. so all the cheers from Miami, will see u on the other side...
Hi Fanya,
As the other gentlemen had mentioned, I buzzed my thin long hair off a few months ago and started over on a full-blown restoration/growth regimen and have had great success with it so far. I am actually using Minoxidil in addition to the other stuff, but chose to go with Saw Palmetto and Nettle Root extracts for DHT control instead of Propecia/Finasteride.
Here are my threads so far... one of them has my full regimen listed:

You look great with a mane! Good luck with your endeavor and may your results be swift.
Virgin coconut oil, like I always say, stimulates hair growth. Sometimes. Use it like a styling gel.
Hi Fanya and thank you for your post. You have the determination, and this board will give you the encouragement to reach your goals. You will read of many members who have tries various treatments - and the results they have achieved.
