Very nice braid James, I couldn't make mine myself, however when I did get somebody to help me it was very thin and unimpressive. Yours is much better and thick too.

Its held in place with a round rubber stopper, when im able to get it to the large end, then ill leave it in place and it will stretch the hole to the gauge of zero, the sizes are 6,4,2,0, 00.
i forgot what the progression after that is, but im not going any bigger than 00. thanks for the complement Scott. your friend James / Tampa,Fl

That is a good size hole. 0 is 0.325", 00 is 0.365". I am very familiar with wire gauges. (I have wound my own special needs custom power transformers, so I know a lot about wire gauges.)
If that earring had an hour glass like spot in the middle, maybe a 4 or 2, it would stay in place without slipping. I have seen them made this way.

I was able to get it to the thickest part today which is 0 (0.325) as you said.
I will leave in place for about 2 weeks but taking it out occasionally to keep it disinfected, then i will wear a hollow plug for about a month or so before i attempt the final 00 size.

I just noticed that you had plugs. my ears are gauged to 00 right now, I use to have them at 3/4 of an inch but I let them shrink cause they were to big...and i believe that after 00 its 1/2, 9/16, 5/8, 3/4, 7/8, 1 inch then after that it just keep getting bigger
