I've spent the past few years so worried about taking care of my scalp and hair follicles due to my battles with hair loss, that I in turn began to neglect the actual strands of hair. Now that I'm making great progress in regrowing hair, I've begun to take care of my actual hair again.
So here's an update that focuses on the actual hair as opposed to the hair line for a change. I wear it tied back mostly because it's still not at a thickness to where I feel comfortable in wearing it down but it's getting there.
I actually do need a trim though since I've only recently begun taking care of it again.
I had so much shampoo buildup in the back that I had to use baking soda to clean it all out!
Hi jk, Thank you for posting you update. After reading about your treatment routine I am so pleased to see that your hair is responding and looking so impressive, looks really healthy and has reached a fantastic length. Keep doing whatever you are doing 'cause it's working!
Regards. Ian
Thanks, it's a far cry from what it was in my early 20's when it was beyond mid-back length and MASSIVE in volume, and while I doubt it'll realistically ever return to that form, at this point I'm just thrilled to have hair and see more when I look in the mirror rather than less. I'd like to cut it back to shoulder length so I can remove some of the damage.
It's nice to get exited about having long hair again, and the comments are encouraging me because I wasn't sure if the progress was just a product of my imagination because those who see me every day don't notice the gradual progress.
It's been neglected and tied back for so long, I feel like I've pulled the cover off of the proverbial muscle car and given it it's first bath and wax job in several years.
Hi jk, your hair looks fantastic!I did reread your previous post about how you were working on restoring you hair and I'd say it's working.I would hope you don't cut it back from its current length being from what I see it compliments your overall appearance.Anyway thanks for the update for a job well done my friend:)Cheers
Mark
Thanks for the compliments. Trimming it really isn't a big deal though, my hair grows rather fast, especially now that I'm much healthier, it'd take a matter of 3 months for it to return to this length from shoulder length.
Hi jk,that's cool you have fast growing hair as we should all be that fortunate:)So if you are going to trim the damaged part of your hair off are you intending to grow it back to the length in your pic?I would recommend it as it does look awesome long like that on you my friend.Just my opinion that's all:)Cheers
Mark
Thanks again,
I'm thinking about maintaining this length at some point. I would love to grow it back to mid back length like I had to years ago, but I don't think that's my best option at this point, so I think the length in this picture is a reasonable compromise.
At this point though, it seems that regular trims kind of give the regenerating hair follicles a boost. My hair was actually mid back length as recently as November but you'd never know it because the ends were non-existent and I always had it tied back, I had it trimmed to above shoulder length and before I knew it, it was well past my shoulders again.
I think your hair looks great, really nice and long I like it loose. Good luck in your growing hair long.
Tom
That's really cool that you've achieved such success in restoring your hair and growing it long. I went through a period of also not caring for my hair as well as I could have and am now trying to fix that. A small trim is often a good way to get better ends and prevent tangling.
Thanks for the update. I didn't realize your hair is this long.
Hi jk,
I think it is awesome how well your hair has recovered, and how much it has thickened the past few years. You have achieved excellent length as well, and continued good luck wishes are going your way in your hair growing journey.
Keep it growing,
David
Thank You DavidN, these comments are really encouraging me to maintain my hair.
The thing about me is that I'm as stubborn as they come, and I did not want to resort to any of the drugs that I was prescribed. I was certain that something was wrong because my health was deteriorating, but everybody insisted that it was Male Pattern Baldness, but I persisted. I think the fact that I was told that it is genetic, and there's not much I can do about it is what ultimately motivated me. I don't like people telling me that I can't achieve something!
I think if my success continues, it's really going to make me question what science knows about hair loss, because this wasn't supposed to be able to happen. When miniaturization is present, and it follows that classic pattern, they say that anything short of a powerful anti-androgen would be ineffective.
The reason that I need to trim my hair is because the ends are from before I started treatment and therefore are thinner, and I still have hair that is recovering so it's not all the same length.
Looking great JK!
I find shampooing/conditioning my hair only once a week works best for me.

That's what I used to do, but the past few years I've been fumbling around with different shampoos for my condition. Right now I use Lemon Sage shampoo with essential oils mixed in which leaves my hair and scalp feeling great. At this point I shampoo 3 times a week, but I don't use any harsh commercial shampoos any more like I used to, I use all mild-organic so there really aren't any ill-effects from shampooing several times a week.
The other thing is, my hair still has its days where it looks flat and thin, so when I shampoo it, it helps boost the volume a bit.

Your hair looks gorgeous in that photo, jk. Whatever you are doing is working very well for you. Long hair forever.

Just for comparison's sake, this is my hair at its absolute worst from a year and a half ago. Note the right side of the hair line which had receded a decent amount. I would never have posted this back at that time, the look on my face signifies about how happy I was at that point in my life.
Hi jk,
Well at least your facial hair had no problems back then even with the issues involving your head hair.Thankfully you are past that point in your life as your recent hair pics are awesome my friend:)Cheers
Mark
Wow! You have lovely hair. Well done!
What's your treatment?
