Hey guys, how are you all doing? I've found out today about the No-Poo technique. It consists on stopping the use of shampoo and washing your hair only with conditioner, including the scalp. Some people say it works and cleanses the hair, some say it dries it. It is intended for curly, dry hair. Does anybody tried it? I've only heard girls talk about it, but never a guy. Do you guys think it would work? I wanna try but I'm really afraid, since my hair is damaged and dry already. For me, it makes a little sense, altough I was always told not to let conditioner touch the scalp. Sorry for the giant post, but I could not shake it off my mind lol.

Interesting concept, seeing as so many use shampoo merely once a week, I guess "no-poo" seems plausible. Honestly sounded like some dog pet stain remover at first till I read the article LOL. Also, I have never heard about conditioner never touching the scalp, I simply glob it on and let it sit for a few minutes while I scrub muh body to a high sheen and then rinse. I never seem to have issues with conditioner on my scalp. I always recommend jojoba oil, again I use it after the shower, and then when my hair has dried some what I comb it through. I'm interested on hearing what people think as well now that you bring it up. I couldn't see not using shampoo, and only conditioner, as being overly drying. I would think the problem would be build up, unless you used some other method to clean or rinse your hair such as baking soda or vinegar. Again, having dry hair can be so many things, but a good natural oil or conditioning regimen can cure a lot.

I haven't used shampoo for more than a year and I'm very pleased with the results.
I wash my scalp with water once a week. I don´t understand why some people have dry hair with water only washing, mine is more on the oily side. That's one of the great benefits, the oil your scalp produces don't get's washed away and your hair quality will improve. When you don't want to oily hair wash it twice a week with water.
In the beginning your hair will get very greasy but after a while your scalp ajusts.
I use condioner in my end, not to clean my hair but to remove tangles and shed hairs. The conditioner doesn't touch the part of my hair above the hairtie (with a low ponytail in your neck).
I've heard of co (conditioner only) washing but I use wo (water only) washing.
Good luck and when you've got questions just post them. My last update is a bit down so there you can see what results I got with this.
Hi Andy, I've "poo'd" less and less over the months, just washing with tepid water and conditioning the ends. When I do poo, I use a sulphate free brand. I have found that my hair retains more of its natural oil that harsh chemicals simply wash away. Worth giving a try to see if it works for you.

I have fine hair and must alas use shampoo every 3-4 days as the oils in my scalp cannot escape any other way. I have an oily scalp with dry hair ends. However the longest i could go without using shampoo was about a week and the scalp itches like hell. Good luck to those who can get away with only using conditioner.

My scalp was itchy like hell the first weeks. When you're really serious give it some time and deal with the negatives.
I think it took my scalp about one to two months to ajust, after that it was smooth sailing :)
If you're having trouble pooing, you might want to try eating more fiber.
pooing problems, this is too funny!!!!! LOL James/Tampa,Fl
I can't even remember the last time I used shampoo. It was like getting haircuts: I didn't see the point of it & just never made a habit of it, so it was easy to stop.
You say this technique is aimed only at dry curly hair, but that's not true. There different conditioners "for" different kinds of hair, just like there are different shampoos "for" different kinds of hair.
I wash with a bar of Castille Cocoa butter soap, which has no Sodium Laurel Sulfate, then put on a little Coconut oil so I can comb it & distribute it with hot water running over it.
I would think conditioners would have lots of chemicals, and I think I've seen Sodium Laurel Sulfate in them, which is damaging.
your post inspired me to try this the last few days, and so far I thank you for passing on a great idea, it is working very well for me so far
