Would love to have hair as long as Dusk's recent entry (his is simply awesome) but it's probably not going to happen. There is one good thing about not having the inherent ability to grow extraordinary long hair. It's less dangerous. I've had times where I've gotten closer to fire than I've wanted. On a very rare occasion the stove malfunctions and the fire it brings is massive in size. I worry about my hair getting caught and stuck in things like: knobs, razors, sewing machines, drills, fans, doors, moving vehicles, elevators, escalators, candles, fires, mechanical things, wheels, paper shredders, lighters, cigarette ashes, zippers, molesters, factory or news reels, windows and more. It is even possible to fall down from sitting on your hair while attempting to stand up or it getting caught in the couch or stepping on it. My hair gets stuck in chairs a lot. What I do is put a plastic bag on top of the chair so my hair doesn't get caught in the back of the chair. The safest way to wear long hair is in a bun. More men need to use this style method when in or near such circumstances.
Here's my latest long hair photo. This is my hair after being combed and washed 1 1/2 days ago.
That's an amazing update and you should be duly proud. There must be some of us, me included, that would kill to get anything like that length and fullness. Very well done, it suits you. Keep it growin' Ian.
Hi J.M.M.,
Your comments above are all excellent safety reminders of how important it is to stay aware of any potential dangers to one's long hair. A few years ago, I went to a friends' graduation party at his home after he had finished grad school. I arrived at his party wearing my hair down & loose -- something I was looking forward to doing, because this particular friend usually only sees me on the dance floor with it tied back in a bun or braid. Once I walked in the door, however, I saw candles literally EVERYWHERE -- so many of them, in fact, that it instantly made me nervous over not being sure where it was safe to walk or turn around without potentially catching my loose hair on fire. So, I did what was obviously the practical thing to have to do under the circumstances: I immediately decided to put my hair up in a bun, even though I was originally looking forward to showing it off, down...
It's an awareness issue. Since hair doesn't have any nerve endings to alert us to potential danger, the longer we grow our hair, the more we have to just stay smart and aware in order to protect ourselves and our hair.
You have a wonderful head of hair, by the way, very thick & full, and with a lot of body & curl to it -- CONGRATS, and hope you keep it growing!

Great looking hair J.M.M. even if it isn't equal to Dusk's fantastic length.I feel its best being thankful to at least have a full head of hair as one ages.I'd love to have hair as long or longer than Dusk but I don't think its gonna happen!LOL.Good reminders of the dangers our longhair potentially faces everyday in the real world.Cheers my friend.

I know what you mean, the longer it get's the more hazards there are. Before my trim I used to wear it in a bun when the situation required it, now it short enough to wear it in a tail like I prefer.
I'd probably fellow suit and cut back to Mid back length too once i have experienced waist length hair. My original goal was the same length as what your got now.

Your hair is really thick and looks great. Mine is a lot longer but not nearly as thick. I am guessing that your ancestry is from India. They have the thickest hair in the world as far as I know. I have seen images of women from India with braids as thick as a man's wrist.
My hair has gotten snagged on door knobs and I sit on it as well. My beard is super long and a few strands have gotten wrapped around a drill bit or two. I just stop the drill and unwrap it from the drill bit, or better yet, put it in a bun.
Again, your hair looks great.

Hi Scott,
So you think my ancestry comes from India? Well if it did that would be news to me. If I am (even partially) Indo-Aryan then prehaps there is some truth to what you say. Most of my genetics though is of Semitic origin, however I'm sure I also have a lot of European blood running through my veins. I also suspect I have lineage from Asia Minor or the Caucasus from a time very long ago. But in general, I doubt I am Indian at all, but I do like their cuisine, however I like Persian cuisine even more and like Greek and Italian cuisine the most. Things we like could be an indicator of our make-up perhaps? There could be a degree of truth to that.
The weird thing is my hair tends towards having thickness but not length. I've noticed Asian (not just Mongoloid but also Caucasian) people from the more southern regions have the thickest straight hair. Africans would likely have the thickest and longest hair but it is kinky and so it acts as a major obstacle.
I will admit that Indians do have the most prized thick braids on average, which helps them to get so long.
Thank you Scott and thanks for the compliment.
Sincerely,
J.M.M.
Fabulous head of hair J.M.M.!
The multi-segment ponytail approach has worked well for me in keeping safe from "mane bane".
