I've heard that it's a very tolerant area
does anyone know if there is a strong vibrant
long hair friendly community there?
"KEEP AUSTIN WEIRD!" ~ that's their motto. :)
Austin is full of artists, musicians, crafters, jewelry makers, and lots of people who march to the beat of their own drum. There are probably several FB pages and web sites that have info about Austin -- not just if it's long hair friendly, but what the cost of living is, what jobs and educational opportunities may be available, how good the public transportation system is, etc. I know they have A LOT of musical acts frequent Austin, and the weekend night life is always fun. Plus there are a lot of outdoor recreational activities. But it is also very, very hot many months out of the year, and doesn't rain often. {I live less than 100 miles from Austin, but have never actuaally lived IN Austin.}
Good luck with your info search and your final decision to relocate or not. :)
sounds like a fun area to reside in!
any specific websites that you are aware of would be helpful.
thanx ;-)
I live 200 miles north of Austin, but travel down there periodically. I attend the annual Misprint Magazine Beard and Moustache Contest in Austin every February, and have a great time. Lots of nightlife and long-haired guys on 6th Ave.
One "downside" is that Austin is growing so fast, that congestion is a problem. It's the only place I know of where you can be caught in a traffic jam on I-35 at 2am.

I think the more unique, the better!
